MarkyM607's rivet king! ***FINISHED***

Post by MarkyM607 »

Haven't pics yet as I haven't rescued the kit from the loft but I have a Modelcraft MR.3 that might be the contender for this...

Okay, update time. Kit retrieved from loft, start made on cockpit floor/controls. Bomb bay roof ready, engine fronts/propellers assembled. As I think I mentioned (and someone else did), the prop blades are not all the same!....
Image
Had to replace at least four, all three on one prop and one or two on two others. One prop blade looked as though it had stopped growing three quarters of the way through!!.
Rivets aplenty!!...
Image
This is the kit by the way...

Update as to current progress. The engine fronts don't touch all over when they go against the nacelles, as someone said I think. However they don't look too bad, have fillered them but might need more on the top when they're on the wings.
The struts from the wheel leg to the nacelle bay front don't actually meet in the middle more than a millimetre or so but might sort that out later!.

Ta. Actually it's taken much more shape than these pics show. I've had trouble getting pics onto my computer and photo host but should be good from now. The fuselage is together and the wings and tip tanks are on. Engines to go on.
***I used 40g weight but a test fit of the engines/main wheels showed she still tipped on her tail. Ended up putting another 30g in to get the nose wheel to touch the ground!!****

It certainly takes a substantial amount of weight to hold it on the nose wheel!
Best wishes

It certainly does. There is some considerable amount of fuselage/tail behind the main wheels, which in my theory should need a lot of weight. If there's more than 50% of the aircraft behind the main wheels then weight you need. Obvious perhaps but it's served me well.

Progress so far...
Image
Some work to level out the rear and front of the engines where they meet the wing edges. Tried filler but it's hard to sand at the front and would need a lot on the rear.

Hi, yes, in paint, just needs the bomb-bay roof painting, a few tiny bits adding that I know I would have knocked off if I had applied them before painting!. Hopefully will be done. Despite some slight fit problems on the engines and soooo many rivets I have enjoyed this GB and it's a surprise how big the Shackleton really is!.
(Will try and get pics up later tonight).

Current state of play, She's as done as I can make her. I think I would spend another week touching up paint and details, best to leave well enough alone I think!!!.

Since these pics the canopy has gone on although it doesn't fit very well and is too fragile to bash about taking some off!!. Wires have also been added to the aerials-tails and all small parts I have (some are missing) are on. Bomb-bay painted and ready for decals...

Looking good! Looks like exactly the same fit issue that I had with the glazing.....and as you say, it's not up to being forced to toe the line!
Best wishes

Thanks Iggie, yes the canopy is a little bit of a let down, quite thin and I tried to scrape the overhang with a curved knife (mistake I know), but it caused a slight crack to become slightly larger (top. middle of canopy). Leaving it as it is for now!!.
Otherwise... FINISHED!!!!!

Nice result. I have that issue in the stash too. How were the decals to apply?

They look better than mine were.....

Oh, and that's a good looking finish against stiff odds!
