Dirk's Paper Battlestar Berzerk Gunship
I will be taking the SciFi rout and try building the Battlestar Berzerk from the re-imagined TV series Battlestar Galactica. The Battlestar Berzerk was a Battlestar group support vessel for the Colonial Fleet. This class vessel served as support/ gun platform to their respective Battlestar Group.
They are about half the size of a galactica type Battlestar and feature a similar layout, consisting of the "alligator head" fore section, a midsection consisting of the ships hanger deck, and an aft section which houses the main sublight engines.
Unlike the Galactica type Battlestars that have their flight decks in pods flanking the sides of the misection, the Berzerk class has their flight deck tucked underneath the secondary cannons.
The Battlestar Berzerk appeared briefly in the TV movie "Battlestar Galactica, Razor" where it was destroyed in the opening attack on the Scorpion ship yards while alongside the Battlestar Pegasus. I understand the ship may also have been seen briefly in the series "Blood and Chrome" but its been so long since I seen that series I would have to go back and check it out before I could say definitively.
Here are some drawings of the ship
I found the model for the Berzerk at the following site if anyone is interested. its a free download;
http://stevespaper.com/?page_id=66
The ship has not been built in styrene kit forum but has been created as a garage kit in resin and sells for about $100. Seeing as I don't have that kind of money to spend on any one kit the paper offering is perfect for me. I realize its not in scale with the other BSG kits but it would look cool side-by-side in formation with the Pegasus or the Galactica.
Well till 12 Nov, B-Strong

It should be straight forward except for the alligator head. That is going to be a challenge

Re: Dirk's Paper Battlestar Berzerk Gunship
Last night I started work on the Battlestar Berzerk.
Here are the parts. I printed them onto 110lb paper
I started construction with the engines
That's all for now

Re: Dirk's Paper Battlestar Berzerk Gunship
it looks like they have used good shading to give the effect of 3d surface detail.

Re: Dirk's Paper Battlestar Berzerk Gunship
You may have done this anyway, Dirk (I need to see the movie version) but when parts have these integrated joining tabs, you can cut them off and replace them with a similarly sized and shaped piece attached to the under side of the part. This allows to to get a smoother and cleaner butt join on the surface althoguh you have to keep an eye out to ensure that the extra thickness does not affect the fit of other parts especially internal formers: paper or not, many of these models have very close tolerances in their designs...Dirkpitt289 wrote:

Hopefully a good route and not a rout...Dirkpitt289 wrote:I will be taking the SciFi rout

Nice tip, I will have to remember that one for future builds.SJPONeill wrote:when parts have these integrated joining tabs, you can cut them off and replace them with a similarly sized and shaped piece attached to the under side of the part. That's a good tip, I have had that problem several times.SJPONeill wrote:when parts have these integrated joining tabs, you can cut them off and replace them with a similarly sized and shaped piece attached to the under side of the part. I have never seen a Berzerk as I have never watched the new Galactica and I am never likeley to as I am stuck in the eighties...lol, looks to be an impresive ship though.
