Back to square one

Good news, the new printer has done a much better job of the colours, the yellow and brown are much more vivid and the ink is no longer reacting to the PVA a glue.

I have now gone up from 160g to 210g paper this shoul give me a smoother finish.

The card you used in the formers does look a little light, Splash...I find that the card used in twelve-pack beer cartons is pretty rigid, easy to cut and has other benefits...
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

I agree I thought it look a little light weight so I doubled the thickness on the remaining formers and added extra card to the two I had already fitted.

I have a new printer and discovered the old printer was set to fit to page, I have now set my new printer to 100% and the new print is slightly bigger and the scale markings on the paper now actually measure correctly :-D

So it's not you :-D

Looking good. Did you have to buy that paper special? The thickest I've seen here at staples is 110lb

We measure the thickness of paper differently here in the UK, we use "gsm" not "lbs" so your 110lb card would be thicker than my 210gsm card.

US / UK
50lb / 135gsm
60lb / 163gsm
65lb / 176gsm
80lb / 216gsm
90lb / 243gsm
100lb / 271gsm
110lb / 298gsm
130lb / 352gsm
160lb / 433gsm

I think we should standardise by using beer carton packaging as the baseline

Using the thicker card has made laying the decking down a lot easier as the heavier weighted card stays flat and has less of a tendency to sag.

I tried to fit the sides, but found I had gone too thick and it didn't want to conform to shape, so its another re-print and try again.

The thinner side are going on easier, the instructions say start in the middle and work forward and aft, so here it is with the bow and sturn still to be finished when the glue sets.

Coming together nicely Splash. I use the 'glue a bit/wait to dry/glue a bit' technique as well, it takes longer but I find I get a much neater finish.

...and to further 'clarify' things papers may be the same weight but different types and densities e.g. photo paper, card v paper etc, and thus be different thicknesses...from time to time you may see some paper models e.g. those from the Uhu02 stable, recommend a specific thickness as opposed to weight of paper...

Yes, there is a difference in gsm "weight" for the same "lb" weight between "text" and "cover" paper - that may be the density Simon is referring to.

The thinner ships sides have gon on well all they need is some trimming when set.
