Fokker EV/DVIII***FINISHED****
Here is my first foray into the art that is paper modeling.
I've decided to take the pages straight out of the book as these things have been hidden away in an attic for many years and to be honest once built I doubt I will want to build them again.
This is what the model should look like after it's completed.....
Instructions look simple enough...but.......
I have a few bits of balsa and plastic card that will be used to strengthen the struts and fuselage, well that's the plan anyway.
Here are the parts to this build.
Regards
Mark

That looks a good kit, I like the weathering on the wings.
What scale is it 1/32?

Re: Fokker EV/DVIII
There was no scale mentioned but I did some quick calculations with the assembled wingspan vs real and I would say it is approx 1/20th scale, so not a bad sized kit.
I have started the wings as mentioned and have just finished the prop.
The wings have some cardboard strengtheners through the center of the wing which was made from a pizza box and cut into shape using the supplied template. The center of the wings will have a dash of paint to eradicate the white seam line.
The prop was not as easy as I thought it would be and took a bit of fighting to get it acceptable but it's finished now and I have started to painted out the seam lines with some brown acrylic paint.
Also removed some more parts for shaping.
The fuselage bulkheads were made by gluing the paper templates over cardboard and then cut out as this will give the model some rigidness.
That will do for today I don't want to turn this into a blitz......

This looks like a cool kit and you're doing a really nice job with it Titan. It certainly looks easier than painting lozenge camouflage

Great progress. Love the propeller. Nice craftsmanship.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Shhhhhhh...It's not finished yet...Dazzled wrote: It certainly looks easier than painting lozenge camouflage
Still shaping bits and will tidy up with a buffing stick before painting out the white card with suitable colour paint.
The seat will get some Tamiya tape seatbelts
The engine cylinders were fiddly but once the heads were added a trimmed look a lot bette, again these will be buffed and painted.
Some more card reinforcements added.
And finally the tail section has been glued and cut.

Re: Fokker EV/DVIII
Time to get the fuselage together.
The bulkheads have been glued in and given some shape to it, the chair has also been glued in place as there would be no way of doing so once the underside has been attached.
Taking of which...though once attached it had to be trimmed to size a bit.
The tail section has been added but not glued I will leave off until the end of the build, but I'm glad I stuck cardboard between the two tail pieces as now it is more rigid and less fragile.
Next the nose section....
This was a right royal pain in the butt to get correct and even now it still needs a bit of work, I will have to add a bit a black backing paper to the inside as there are one or two gaps that can clearly be seen which is another part that looks easier that it actually is to construct. where's my filler...lol
Phew....that's all for today, though I may go around and touch up the white bits of card that are showing.

Re: Fokker EV/DVIII
Thanks Molly.
Just a little update.
wrapped the paper struts around cocktail sticks to make the under carriage stronger but will need a little refinement, also stuck three bits of card together before placing a wheel disk on top and then cutting to size again for extra strength so should be able to rig the undercarriage with some elastic thread at least.
.
Time to start thinking about the wing.

It's looking very good. The printing of that model really brings out the 3-dimensionality of it.

Re: Fokker EV/DVIII
Petal parts can be a real pain but you've made a great job of the that nose cowling...
Possibly because the designs were quite angular, these early aircraft so seem to lend themselves to paper designs...
