Daz's yellow peril Spitfire **DNF**

Post by DazDaMan »

I hadn't thought about doing this one originally, but thanks to the generosity of Lancfan in the supply of some decals, my 1/72 Spitfire trainer will get an earlier-than-anticipated airing in this GB!

I will attempt to do this rather bright specimen:

Incidentally, this is the prototype Spitfire trainer, as well as being the sole Spitfire T.8 (all the rest were built to Tr.9 standard). It still exists and is currently under slow restoration to fly again in the UK, and as such is the only prototype Spitfire, of any kind, to survive!

Any progress on this ? I know you have another one going, so maybe this is for afterwards ?

Yeah, I was waiting until I finish the XVI before cracking on with this one.

I bit the bullet and broke out the kit on Sunday.

Progress on this one hasn't been too quick, mainly due to me wanting to finish off that bloody Revell Spitfire!!

However, the end is in sight for it, so I will crack on with the build over the weekend.

Building a Spitfire Daz! You can never have too many.

Let us know what the fit is like as I have a couple of these to build.

Lancfan built one, and from what I gather it's a nice wee kit. If it's anything like the Spit XVI, then I won't be disappointed!

Right, now that the Revell Spit and the Matchbox Spit are both out of the way, I can concentrate on this one. Should have it done by New Year!

I've assembled the cockpit parts and installed them in the fuselage, which has been buttoned up. The wings are also joined together and the tips installed.

Will get pics later!

I won't get this one finished by the end of the GB, sadly.

I've done a bit more work to this one, and it just needs final assembly and decals.

However, I've noticed I've stuffed something quite badly on it! I forgot to fit the undercarriage mount inside the wing, so if I had wanted to model the aircraft wheels-down, I would have nothing to support the undercarriage legs.

What to do? Gear up, obviously! I'll source a stand from somewhere and pop it onto the top once it's done.

As far as I've got with this one up to now...

There's about six layers of paint on this one!! All that remains is to attach the prop, then paint the pilot and install him before gluing the canopies down.

If I might be permitted - I could get this finished tomorrow. The cockpits are now done and the prop is on, I just need to put on the decals.
