MarkyM607's Bicentennial F-4 and bright 747 **Part DNF**

Post by MarkyM607 »

Hi,
I may have to change plans after waiting weeks to get cracking on my Austin Powers 747. The kit I was going to use is now appearing a little unfair: the body, wings and horizontal tails are all glued together, forgot I made a start on it some time ago. Therefore I think it would be unfair to proceed with this and will make it in my own time.
As a result I have three contenders (pics later).
1.Airfix Brewster Buffalo, yellow wings, silver body.
2.Airfix Douglas Devastator, yellow wings, red tail.
3.ESCI MDD F-4 Phantom II, Bicentennial markings, probably enough said but red/white stripes on wings, red blue other places etc.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

I think you should do the F4.
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Airfix Buffalo scrubs up nicely:

The Devastator should look even more imposing in the prewar scheme! That would get my vote. Personally, I don't think I could finish the big brute that is an F-4 in a month! :)

I'd go for the Devastator

While colorful, the Yellow Wings aren't bright & cheery, just standard US markings of the 'tween wars era.

So I'll do the Phantom, it's definitely not 'standard' colour scheme!!. I might try and do the 747 that I was going to do alongside...

It would be great if you wanted to add the partly-started 747 alongside the F-4 build ...

Thanks Splash, been waiting for that one, John, I shall see what I can do!!. As I said, didn't feel right to use the 747 as my main build considering it's build status.

Just a quick update on my joint build!. The F-4 is starting to look like a Phantom and the 747 is now very colourful with test painting underway.

Right, some progress made now!!. The F-4 is progressing more slowly than the 747 which is not actually fully ready for paint, seams and the like. Just too impatient for paint!!!.

The white on the 747 is my attempt to make the lines smoother and so on!!.

Looks more like a chameleon than a 747

I was thinking the same thing, and well blended into the surroundings.

Thanks (I think!) . If it is a Chameleon it looks like one confused in a bag of skittles!! . The surroundings are carefully co-ordinated to look like a mess but they are in fact precise and sorted. And that's the excuse I'm sticking to!! :ha:
