Batman's Batskiboat***Kapowed***

Post by Molly-new »

My first build will be AMT's version of the Batskiboat which features in the terrible movie Batman Returns

Image

In the film Batman uses the Batskiboat to travel through Gotham's sewer system and infiltrate the Penguin's lair. It is later used to crush The Penguin's Duck Vehicle (which I may attempt to scratch build) as he was trying to escape in it.

The kit is fairly basic and only has 18 parts, which should allow me to tackle my other build within the time frame.

Batman Returns wasn't bad! Certainly better than the abominations that followed!

Agreed, the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher era were, in my mind, a dark period for Batman fans. Thank goodness for Christopher Nolan coming along with his Dark Knight trilogy, 3 awesome films. The latest Gotham series has been quite inspired as well.

On the build front I have done some assembly and detail painting on the interior:

Thankfully I am back home now after the festive period so should be able to get some serious modelling done over the next few days.

While cleaning up the main body parts I noticed quite a few ejector pin marks that need filling.

Sanding done, assembley complete and a coat of black primer on;

I will be using a gloss black rattle can to do the top coat but need the weather to warm up a little bit first.

I tried to paint this today but found that the paint in the rattle can was splodging out rather than covering neatly (thankfully on a test piece), so I have reverted back to good old Revell Black 08 in the airbrush:

Image

To get the gloss look I am after I am either going to give it a coat of klear, or invest in a can of gloss varnish.

I have put a couple of coats of Humbrol Acrylic Varnish on this but it seems to evaporate from the area behind the cockpit:

I have only ever used this product when making my own decals, so this is new to me. Has anyone come across this before, and know of a reason behind it?

I am tempted to give it a coat of klear to see if that improves the appearance.

Is the black you used enamel?, I've heard you can't mix the two re: varnish and paint.

Certainly coming along.

I would give it a very light rub down with wet n dry (wet) and spray a couple of coats with Klear.

When using a rattle can, leave it in some warm water first before use and when finished turn upside down and spray until no paint comes out to clear the nozzle.

Thanks for the comments, I gave it a coat of klear and it covered OK. I must remember the tip re. warm water for future use.

With the painting done and the air intakes fitted it was finished:

I left the canopy loose so that the cockpit detail could be seen.

It is a big old beast, here it is next to a 1/72 Spitfire:

Not the most taxing of builds, but another to add to my Batman collection so I am happy.
