Daz's Angel **FINISHED**
Daz's Angel **FINISHED**
A couple of years before Bader's story hit the big screen, we had this little cracker of British post-war cinema:
The film tells the story of rookie Hurricane pilot "Septic" Baird, who joins a squadron just as the Battle of Britain starts to kick off.
Aerial sequences are a bit limited, but what there are of the six Hurricanes (five from Portugal and one from Hawkers themselves) are very nice.
My selected kit will be this one:
Now, I've never actually built one of these before, so I'm hoping there's not much trouble to be had!
I'll need to watch the film again, as I'll need to find a particular airframe to model!

Re: Daz's Angel
I watched the film over the weekend, and have decided to model Septic's Hurricane from the scene where he manages to shoot down a Bf110.
It's an unusual scheme, as it is standard 1940 camouflage but with later-type roundels and flashes:

I'll finally manage to get this one on the desk later on!
I may try to get hold of another kit, too, as I dearly want to build a French-based Hurricane from the start of Battle of Britain...

The bits:
With some paint on them.
Assembling the wings, with the cockpit parts built:
Gluing the wings and fuselage:
Attaching the wings and fuselage:
So far, not a bad old kit. A bit of a gap along the fuselage spine, but some PVA has sorted that no bother.

I think all Hurricane kits require that rubber band ....

Re: Daz's Angel
A good start.
Beware the pilot's stirrup foot step; Airfix would have you put in the middle underneath whereas it should be by the port wing root trailing edge.
No shell ejector slots in bottom of wing; you could cut them out or use black decal to represent them.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Thanks, Fred, I had wondered what that little bump was for! I'll change that later.
I never noticed the absence of shell ejection slots, though!

Sit-rep:
Two coats of dark earth applied, and one coat of duck-egg blue underneath so far. The undersides should be finished today, and the first coat of dark green should be on later.
Then I just have to paint and assemble the undercarriage.

Camouflage is pretty much done:
All that's left is to assemble the undercarriage so that the model can sit on its own wheels before I start decaling it.

Speedy, and nice.
I have, yesterday, dug out a stalled-build one. Might finish it this coming weekend. I can dream

Nice, the codes threw me until I looked closely at the picture and saw they were reversed there.
