Daz's Buchon bad-guy **FINISHED**
Daz's Buchon bad-guy **FINISHED**
Yes, of course I was going to build a Buchon! Yes, of course, it was going to be from this movie:
Not only that, but this particular aircraft still flies, and also it is the only aircraft used in the film to still fly in its movie markings:
If you've been to Duxford over the past few years, this will be a familiar sight to you! Buchon G-BWUE (now G-AWHK, which is the aircraft's original registration) was restored to fly in the early 2000s, and later repainted into her pseudo-Luftwaffe scheme.
There is only one real choice for this build, and it's this one:
(Although mine is the original Hobbycraft boxing, which does not include Luftwaffe decals.)
Built one of them recently, and it's a lovely kit. My version will not have the three-blade prop, as it will be done as G-AWHK appeared during the summer of 1968, sporting the correct four-blade item.
If I have time, and if the kit arrives in time, I'll be building the "Civilschmitt" version as well.

My second kit arrived this morning, this being the "Civilschmitt" version.
If I have time, I'll pop it into the GB!

Re: Daz's Buchon bad-guy
The Buchon hit the desk this morning, and cockpit parts are painted and partially assembled.
To help with the paint scheme, I've also put my old Buchon on the desk to be stripped, repainted and repaired. This one was originally a red-nosed example, so it will likely stay in the same colours.
Will post photos later.

Re: Daz's Buchon bad-guy
I was concerned when you said it "hit the desk" but I see it was a gentle landing ....

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Dollar for dollar those Hobbycraft/Academy Messerschmidt's hold up very well.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale
Re: Daz's Buchon bad-guy
I've got the '109K kit as well, and I'm hoping it falls together like the Buchon does - mainly because I lack the instructions for the kit!

Sit-rep:
Wings and fuselage have now been permanently attached.
Wingtips have been sanded to a reasonable (for me!) square profile.
Cowling lumps and bumps have been attached, as well as the tailwheel support.
First coat of light blue has been applied to the undersides, while the tailplane struts and aileron mass balances have been painted separately.
Wing-mounted cannons have been painted.
I've found an interesting cheat with this one, too. The Buchon kit includes the tips of the cannon barrels which would be attached to the wings if one was building the normal Spanish aircraft. The kit also includes the dummy machine-gun barrels for the top of the cowling, which are a bit simple-looking and have no real detail - especially not the ends of the gun barrels! My idea? Simply attach the cannon barrels to the front of the machine-guns - problem solved!
While I've been doing this one, my old Buchon has been undergoing a sympathetic cosmetic restoration - including the fitting of a pilot in the cockpit.

Nose-mounted machine-guns have been fitted - will attach the barrel-ends once I've finished painting the fuselage.
Undersides have been painted in light blue. Upper surfaces have been given two coats of Revell Aqua-color greenish-grey, which looks the part.
Next step is to do the black-green splinter camo.
Pics later.

Nice work clipping those wings, it seems to be going together quite nicely.
