Re: Toby's Special Hobby Beaufort
Looking good, one way I've tried for drilling clear plastic is a bit of masking tape over the area you're drilling, seems to help stop cracking, though not fool proof

Thanks. I think that's the only way to do it to avoid cracking.
The fillet has been sanded down as there was no need for extra width at the back end of the cabin.
The old tail was cut off as it was for a Mk1 and the version I'm doing is the DAP Mk VIII. It went a lot better than expected

Most of the cockpit done. Just needs some tidying up and then I have the fun job of aligning the fuselage halves. That will be character building

Cockpit looks well.
If the fuselage halves are the same thickness at the seams, try some scrap plasticard across the seam to help alignment.[?] A small piece of plastic card glued on one half, then when the other half is brought to join up the card will help align it.

Re: Toby's Special Hobby Beaufort
Thanks Mike, its going better than expected. The fuselage portholes look like being a pig to fit so I've stuck them onto a thin piece of plastic sheet than protects an iphone screen. I'll cut out an area around them and stick that inside to prevent them from falling out once I've closed the fuselage up. They always seem to do that with me. Hopefully it'll stop excess canopy glue blurring the glass and they'll be totally transparent.

Unfortunately it hasn't gone as well as I'd hoped as I used too much glue but I think it's a worthwhile idea provided glue is used sparingly.PaulBradley wrote:Neat idea with the portholes, Toby.

That's a neat idea that I am filing for future use. Could you not cut new windows from clear styrene using a compass cutter then mount them the same way, maybe with something like Clearfix.

Too late as I've closed up the hull hoping it would continue to clear itself overnight. It hasn't and no doubt everyone now will be staring at them when I finally finishKitaholic wrote:That's a neat idea that I am filing for future use. that's a shame as the idea behind it was sound. Just say it was a frosty morning at dispersal and the ground crew haven't warmed her up yet
