Martin's Coastal Hampden ***Finished!***
Re: Martin's Coastal Hampden
Thanks all!
Dman,
I do like the colour scheme. I just think the Hampden looks slightly odd in it. Still, makes for a more eye-catching model, I suppose.
So, I have been crawling along on the build over the weekend. Serial number decals are on and sealed with Klear; hole for the forward firing gun has been drilled out and the gun added; canopy framing has been added - there's still some touching up to do; and finally, tonight I managed to do some more weathering: the wing root chipping has been gone over in light grey and dark Aluminium, and some medium sea grey and dark slate grey enamel paint has been dotted around the wings and smeared out with a wide brush dampened with thinner.
I still have to finish the framing on the ventral gunner's position, do some more weathering, add some small bits (aerial, undercarriage bay doors, Pitot tube) and give it the final coat of satin varnish, and its there. Hope to finish by mid week.
regards,
Martin

Re: Martin's Coastal Hampden
The Hampden/Hereford always looks weird to me but it looks much better in that CC scheme than the usual BC colours. Nice one.

I masked off the topside transparencies last night (after doing some more oil paint streaking). I just need to tidy up the framing round the ventral gunner's position, then mask it off, and I'm ready for some satin varnish action! I'm quite excited about how it'll look when dulled down, tbh.

Martin

Got a coat of satin varnish on the top halves. Letting it dry . . .

Re: Martin's Coastal Hampden
Thank you, chaps. The Humbley pudge is now finished:
To be honest, I'm quite glad I've finished that. The fit was pretty terrible and mould-shift made cleaning up of small components a chore. Still, if noone brings out a new tool Hampden (B.I and TB.I), I have gained a lot of insight into what I'd do differently if I built this again.
1. Buy the oldest boxing of the kit I could afford,
2. Invest in a Falcon transparency set,
3. Do something with the engines,
4. Thin down the fin / rudder halves seriously before joining together,
5. Other stuff TBD
regards,
Martin
