Matt's 'classic' Airfix Blenheim

Post by MDT »

I'm in with the old Airfix Blenheim Iv taken from the Airfix VC set. Now a 'retired' mold this is my third attempt at this kit and you'd have thought I'd learnt my lesson!

Cheers James. Still been chipping away at some slow burners (TSR2 and a Sword Lightning) but I fancied a challenge!

A sprue shot or two..Image

As you can see, the parts are going to need a good clean up including reducing the rivet effect a little.Image
I will be a bit slow getting started on this one as I've got a bit of a heavy work pattern over the weekend and into next week.

Started an assault on the mass of rivets on this kit, as well as attempting to reproduce the correct shape of the engine nacelles - the port wing is untouched for comparison... ImageImage

Cheers Fred!
I know it doesn't look like I've done much but this is the state of play after a few hours sanding/trimming/generally beating the major parts into submission. it's more like some limited run build at this stage! Going by state of the parts no wonder Airfix released a new version...ImageImage

Definitely a kit of it's time, Matt, but one that looks good when complete. You've made a good choice to get rid of the rivets, though!

Attempting to make some cockpit detail but also planning how to improve the transparencies. On the Las build I did they were the last part...I wish I'd invested in the falcon set!( sorry no pictures at this stage. I have to admit I'll be lucky to finish.

Hang on in there Matt, plenty of TLC and the old Blenheim does scrub up well.

Give your clear parts a polishing with toothpaste on a piece of soft cloth. You'll be surprised how nice they'll come up. Then dip in Klear/Future or Humbrol Clear or something similar.
There's plenty of time left.

Sorry no pictures but the engines are done as are the propellers...I made the mistake of finding my long lost razor saw so just to help myself along I've cut the flaps out the lower wing.I have also got a crew to go in it ( it is the old classic Airfix Blenheim after all!) I'll post pictures tomorrow.

I'm afraid Ive ended up working away at short notice (not so sunny Lincoln!)which has been my curse for GBs over the last couple of years...I'll be back tomorrow but there is no way I can blitz the old BBlenheim. It'll be a finisher but not within this Gb...I'm still following everyone's fine contributions though.
