I place a strip of masking tape on my cutting mat, then using a new cutting blade cut strips to the required thickness. This is then painted the desired colour with a couple of thin layers of acrylic paint.

Using overlong strips negates the need for all the awkward measuring, and can be trimmed to length in position. That strips adhere quite well to the canopy, and once complete I put a coat of klear over it all to seal it.

It's looking great Chip and it's not a variant often seen outside of 1/700th versions on USS Hornet models.

That's looking excellent, and exceptional glazing to the canopy!
Best wishes

Thanks for the comments guys, I was surprised at how clear the canopies are in this kit, especially after a rub with my magic cloth and a dip in klear.

The deicing boots on the wings were more problematic than expected as I could not get a satisfactory straight line, even with masking. In the end I reverted to edging them with a bit of black decal, the stuff that you usually get around the outside of a decal sheet.

The decals and all the bits that I had managed to knock off were replaced or re-fitted, followed by a light panel line wash around the flaps and a coat of matt varnish to seal it all in.

I am therefore calling this one finished:

Apart from the problem of it tail sitting (which Italeri provide a stand to compensate for), and the poor fit of the wings, this is a cracking little kit. Yes, there are much more detailed versions on the market, but if you are after a basic kit with a low parts count you can't go wrong with this.

I have really enjoyed this build, so much in fact that I am going to do a Frog Boston to go with it.

Brilliant result Chip  makes a change to see a Mitchell with the early markings.

That's a cracking finish and certainly one to go at the front of any display :-D
