Now there's clever. I don't think anyone does make them. But I think I will.Molly-new wrote:Is it possible to get some lead pilot figures for these?

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: despondman's Airfix B-25 Mitchell
I put some weight in the engine nacelles as advised, thanks for that as I wouldn't have thought of it, and eager to progress stuck together everything I have done so far. Generally a good fit with a little filler here and there.
Keen to see see if I have a tail sitter or not I slipped on the wheels.....and discovered I have.
I then went with my last ditch anti-tail sitting effort and put in the cockpit the weight I intend for the nose and ........yabba-dabba-doo, it sat up right. Only just but it did.

Good going, Dman. The B-25 is an inveterate tail-sitter.

Good news! Just make sure you don't put more paint behind the main wheels than is in front of them
Best wishes

If you put into the cockpit the weight you're going to put into the nose and its just right, then when its further forward in the nose it should be ok.
Coming along very nicely too.

Re: despondman's Airfix B-25 Mitchell
It is now simply the job of attaching the smaller parts - engines, wheels, wheel bay doors, canopy etc. Due to the age of the model all parts need a little bit of cleaning up, bit generally the fit is pretty good. Not much more to do then it is onto the paintwork. Decided that I couldn't justify the cost of after market decals and so I am going for the RAAF scheme. As I haven't put a great effort into cleaning up the model the dark colours are probably a better choice.

The very last lot of weight is glued into the nose.

I reckon about 32gm, 6gm in each engine nacelle, 17gm in the cockpit and a final 3gm in the nose.dwomby wrote:So how much total do you think is in there?
Had a good day of painting yesterday, which is good as I knew I had to be substantially completed by the end of yesterday to be sure of completing in time.

Re: despondman's Airfix B-25 Mitchell
Thanks Molly, Martin, iggie, fred for the comments.
Well all finished now. This is a model that takes a little extra effort in tidying up many of the parts before fitting and using a bit of filler here and there, but nothing major, which is only to be expected from a 1960's tooling. The weight was a surprise, would never have expected to need so much.
Originally I wasn't too sure about the colour scheme, the way Airfix show it in the instructions it looks like olive drab all over, and very dark. It is only once I got near to painting I realised it was olive drab over black, and they seem to work well together and with the RAAF roundels. The decals were slightly out of register resulting in all the roundels having a white 'edge' on one side. Originally I was just going to leave them, but being on dark backgrounds they stood out and only took a couple of minutes to paint over.
Thanks to everyone who looked in and commented.

That's excellent and a good choice of markings.
