"C*K", or "Classic!"

Post by mattbacon »

A slightly left-field idea which came to me yesterday:

The CBK SIG goes global... I'm sure, for many of us, part of being a modeller in the 60s or 70s was building kits not from these shores. Revell and Monogram and Pyro, for sure, Heller (often in 1/50), and maybe those first exotic Japanese imports. This display would be a tribute to Classic Plastic from around the world. Any subject, any scale, just available in or before 1975...

There are no other "Classic ***** Kits" SIGs, so no problems on that score. And looking at the builds on here, we're all happy to build some of those "furrin" classics...

What do you think?

bestest,
M.

That sounds like a good idea.

I thought from the title it was going to be "cack or classic?"

"CBK SIG goes abroad!" Funnily I had the same thought yesterday. It is out of our remit it, a bit like Armour SIG does Fighter planes. However I not really sure anyone is going to complain? To make it more interesting I really think we should stick to seriously old stuff at least pre-1980 preferably pre-1970.

Guess that makes ME seriously old then.....

Intriguing idea. I'd go even further and say pre-1965. Think of all the old Auroras and Revells.....

First, don't we currently define "classic" as 25 years or more ?
If so, I've always been a bit uncomfortable with the moving target and would prefer we stayed back of a more distant fixed line, say not newer than 1975 and certainly 1970 is OK.

Next, if we went C*K, then maybe we could put some "theme to it" by building similar C-K's from different *.
For example, the Revell 1/72 WW1 fighters and the Aurora 1/48 equivalents; a gaggle of P-40's - FROG, Matchbox, Airfix, Aurora, Monogram, etc, you get the idea. And, no I didn't date check any of these, just threw the idea at the wall to see if it would stick.

For variety - ships, figgies, etc - we could also take single subjects or less themed ones ...

I like the idea Matt - we may finally get some classic Revell kits on a CBK table - something I've wanted for ages. However, having said that, there is now a new Revell SIG that will have a display at Telford this year so we may have to be careful about treading on their toes - I understanding their SIG leader is a right piece of work  :ha:

Oh, I'm sure we can talk him round... ;-P

Seriously, I thought about not posting this when I saw your post about the Revell SIG, but then I thought it's no different from the situation with AMSIG, and these days both SIGs happily co-exist (at Telford and elsewhere!).

I'd want to find some of those Aurora Knights that used to come with "plated" armour...

Those seem to come up for sale quite frequently on ebay USA.
