Paul's Telford Builds 2015
So far, I have volunteered some olde fashioned vehicles:
I've examined the contents and all are rather crude - the Keil Kraft ones in particular have little detail and what is there is rather soft and often ill-defined. Still, I expect they'll look fine in the background!
I have also dug out a project I'd started about 10 years ago, the Airfix Control Tower. This was going to be part of a small diorama area I'd planned to display some of my WWII RAF stuff, but lack of space in my display case meant it got de-prioritized. This display is a great excuse to dig it out and finish it! The intent was always to super-detail it, but references have always been rather sparse. I did take the opportunity to take some notes and photos inside the one at Elvington when I visited the YAM with Chris (Falcon) and Gregers about 7-8 years ago now, so I did make a start:
Don't worry - it isn't that blurred in real life.....
None of the interior walls are currently glued in place - I still need to add doors and 'artwork' before then - but the layout is fairly true to the real thing, given that the Airfix isn't 100% prototypical in any case. I had thought about lighting it, but I'm not that clever!
I might contribute a couple of light aircraft as well - I have a half-complete Frog Gipsy Moth that can easily be finished for this.

Re: Paul's Builds
There was an article in a copy of Airfix mag last year where someone went to town on the control tower. Did I rip it out and keep it? is a question I can't yet answer. More importantly: if I did, where did I put it. I will keep an eye out as I need to have a housework and tidying session imminently.

Paul if you are adding a Signal Square this PDF file might be of use, apologies if it's teaching you to suck eggs http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/20130121SSL06.pdf
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
Re: Paul's Builds
I have found said mag article. Would you like me to photograph the 4 pages and post them online for you to save down? Sometimes it's easier to photograph page with camera rather than firing up scanner and faffing around and saving to PDF -

Cheers, guys.
Chris - what's that mag? I may already have it, as I seem to vaguely recall an article of that nature.
Alan - thanks, useful info!

Airfix model world magazine - pages 68-74 a month during 2014 is best I can offer as I ripped it out and no clues as to month on the pages - but it was last year. It was probably jan or feb edition as there was mention on p67 of smw2013 and they are always a good month ahead with mag dates

Re: Paul's Builds
Excellent. I haven't seen many examples of the Airfix Control Tower built, so I look forward to seeing this one Paul.

Re: Paul's Builds
Been a bit of a while since an update. I have started a couple of the Keilkraft kits - very crude, but they'll be serviceable - and I've also decided to offer up a pair of old Frog light aircraft to accompany the control tower. The Percival Proctor was a light comms a/c for the RAF, but postwar, many were converted to civilian use as the Proctor IV. Similarly, the old Magister primary trainer was converted to the Hawk Trainer III for the civilian market. Both will be overall aluminium finish with red trim and regs. The Proctor will be marked similarly to the current Classic Air Force airframe, while the Hawk Trainer will be in the markings of the a/c owned by one Richard Gilbert Emery, former President of the Airfix Modellers Club back in the day! Here's where they're at tonight:

Re: Paul's Builds
Awww... couldn't we have the Proctor in the markings of the Special Air Police? Biggles was always flying off North, South, East and West in a Proctor... ;-P

Re: Paul's Builds
Well, if you can find the decals, Matt.......
The models are complete - just need to be primed, painted and decalled:
The yellow parts are from a sacrificial Heller Caudron - the prop was far better than the one Frog provided, and the spats for the Hawk trainer replaced the Magister spindly, unspatted legs. The tiny button wheels in both kits were also replaced by beefier items.
Decals will be Xtradecal red striping and Aeroclub red civvie reg letters.

Re: Paul's Builds
Cheers, Shaun.
The Proctor is basically complete:
Just needs a few little touch-ups and some light weathering.
The Hawk Trainer is also close to completion; I sprayed the aluminium this morning, but I haven't had the chance to add the decals yet.

That's looking good, how do you always managed to get such good joins between the canopy and body?
