Yes, Splash, thank you. I had found that several hours after I made my query and neglected to update it.

I'm a bit weak on choc/cream but think I have a plan.

I have started painting cream on all and will address cantrail and lower colors plus striping next ...

Back again ... Lining

Blood & Custard: Lining was gold/black with gold against crimson, black against cream, waist & cantrail.
Choc/Cream: Lining was black/yellow/black at waist, black/yellow (or none) at cantrail.

There is a tiny, less than 0.5mm raised line above /below windows which I assume to be the lining - far too narrow for me to be doing the above.

I have looked at pictures, but ....

Can I get some guidance on a decent representation ? Put some of the lining off (above or below) the raised strip a bit ? My thinnest masking tape is 1/32" and not always bleed-under proof ....

I have the cream window section done, and in a day or so when I know really dry, will mask it to do the blood/chocolate, so the lining is after that ....

John, I'd like to help but I'm not sure exactly what it is you are asking for help with.

http://www.hornby.com/uk-en/wagons-coac ... r4628.html;

Here is a link to a Hornby Carmine and Cream coach with a picture you can zoom in over which shows the yellow(?) lining above and below with window panels if that will help. Personally I'd use decal strip and cut it as fine as I could manage, or pre-paint Tamiya tape and use that for the lining - I've done this for cockpit canopies before now and it does look too bad from a distance.

Cheers

I have found black/gold and black/yellow lining decals "over there" and ordered some.
I guess I better think about lettering ....

Meanwhile ....

Here's the Open, in progress. Unlike the other, corridor, bodies this has a different seat build process - I've not done one before. We'll see how it goes tomorrow, next-day ... I can tell it'll be fun ...

Wow - just looking at that interior reminds me of many a happy hour spent at the centre carriage door hanging out of the window getting train numbers (not far enough to get me head knocked off though!).

First, I got my striping decals - in about a week !!! Fantastic !!

Image

I think I have enough letters and numbers for any other markings. Time not to get the 'blood' and 'chocolate' on the coaches ....

Next, speaking of coaches, here's most of the interior - just have some arm rests, the guard station, and the lavoratorys to do, then it'll be time to put them inside the coach sides.

Image

I've let things get a bit out of sequence - ideally it'd all fall together, but that'll not happen. Regardless, in good shape.

And lastly, I do have the engine shed out ...

Image

The first coat of red is on, it'll get random smears of a darker red, then a wash for the mortar. The old-wood is streaked on; all that'll get an equally streaky green to reflect some hard wear ...

Progress ....

Status report.

I have just painted the coach exteriors ....

Image

I need to brass the door handles and such, then do a gloss coat and put on lining, number, and any other decals.
The windows have been futured but still need the frames painted before installation.
Once that is done, I can raise one side and both ends on the floor and proceed to install the interiors.

And here they are, sans overhead luggage racks, goods, passengers, reading material, etc ... I'll start cutting all that into a pile of parts shortly ...

Once I get the interiors fit in, I can take out any irregularities, add the other side, then populate with all the details.

At that point, it's just the running gear and roof ...

In the meantime, the train shed is progressing well.

Image

Sides, roof, etc painted, weathered, dusted, smoked, etc - I am going for an "old" effect. About time to start assembling it all. Probably the last thing will be to insert window "glass" from underneath into the inside of the windows.

I have two more days this week, then am off for a few days on a short visit to our son. When I get back, I should have no problem getting this all done on/about the 19th and have it in the mail, leaving almost 3 weeks to make the trip.

They look brilliant, the coach sides have turned out well, with your planned extra detail like the coach lines and door handles they will be stunning.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

As a reminder, I have 3 Choc & Cream and 2 Blood & Custard coaches.

Quick question(s), so I don't screw up ...
- what letter (M,E,S,W) do you want the serial numbers to start with - I am assuming W
- 4 digit or 5 digit (understanding all will be random-ish)

Midland, Eastern, Southern and Western Region - Choc and Cream will definitely be Western e.g W1815 is an example I've seen, and I've found a nice picture of a Southern blood and custard coach on Google numbered S1674.

Other numbers I've just seen are S1851, M34625, M14007, and W4946, so I'd say just about anything you do will be fine John. (We can forget about the Scottish Region as Sc would be a nightmare to reproduce anyway!)
