Chuck rebuilds an old Stirling 8' Single.
I picked this up in an antique shop a few years back. The main body was part painted and roughly glued together with some old tube glue. Luckily, this flaked off quite easily and I returned the slightly marked parts to their original condition. Some parts were still on the sprues, though one of the steps is missing. I'll need to make one. They are handed, so I can't cast another from the one I have. I am very impressed by the fit of the parts and the sharpness of the moulding, especially the wheels. I have had to razor saw the frames apart to allow access for painting. I have just ordered two tins of Precision Rail Colour Acrylic for the frames and body. I'm using the original GNR Apple Green and Chocolate.
I made this base up for my CBK display of models.

These are the other two Kitmaster kits that I picked up. I'll be painting the Harrow, but the Prairie is in decent order. The School Class was seen in Malachite Green and Southern lettering, BR Rail Green and BR Black.

The Stirling will be a great addition to the display, I really like these Kitmaster kits, considering their age the detail and quality and fit of the parts is really good.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Took me forever to find one of those; still sitting in the stash however.

I got a few of those bases from Ebay. Minic / Tri-ang / Kitmaster. They are just printed sheets and you make them up with a piece of wood inserted in the base. I must have a look and see if I can see any more.

I quite like the plastic colour and the instructions do not specify the green used, due to he fact that you are supposed to use the actual unpainted plastic for this. I do have a reasonable Apple Green that I'm going to try. It's a Humbrol Gloss Green. I have got the actual Precision colour, but it's a very dark green and matches the loco on show at the NRM, York. I'm really trying to get the Kitmaster finish, so I'll see if I can match some up.
Look at that lining! I'll see how a small brush works. Every photo is different. Lining is different. About 3 different greens, as well as the Kitmaster, and every large stem replica is different again! To a degree, I've tried to get a decent match for the box.

I've had some fun getting a nice shade of Apple Green to match the box. I found that Valejo Olive was a pretty good match.
Should be all done by Monday night. I'll get it boxed up for delivery as I can't get to the show.

Aw, that's a real shame you can't get to the show Chuck - I was looking forward to talking railways! Are you still going to send the Prairie and the Schools as well? I am just using my Dapol Prairie body to fit on the Lima chassis as one of the two "runners" but I'd like yours as we know they are Kitmaster and can sit proudly on the Kitmaster shelf of honour.Chuck E wrote:I've had some fun getting a nice shade of Apple Green to match the box. Yes, that is a shame you can't make the show Chuck but the Stirling will be proudly displayed. Many thanks for taking the time to build her for us.

Found it in a Brick-a-brack shop up the road. £5 I think. It looked ok once I got it apart and odd splashes of paint removed.jRatz wrote:Took me forever to find one of those; still sitting in the stash however.
What a job getting a good paint match. I used Valejo acrylic Olive green. It looks quite nice. The old and yellowed decals went on perfectly.
Tomorrow I will add some couplings to the buffer beams and it's done.
I need to post the model off to someone who is going to be on our stand. Any offers?

Let me check with my parents in law Chuck as they are often available to take our mail order packages as we both work. I'll send you a PM asap.Chuck E wrote:Found it in a Brick-a-brack shop up the road. £5 I think.
