Telford 2012 Display - Sign-up, Build lists and Chat
With time rushing on past and our display ideas now coalesced into a workable plan I think it is time we decide on what exactly is going on the table and who is going to contribute the builds.
Table 1 is sorted – Strike Wing Round 2
Additions to last year:
• New Baseboard - TomW
• Extra targets in the shape of E-boats - MerlinJones TomW
Table 2 – ‘A Whiff of Ozone’
3 sections:
• Scouting and Patrol
• SAR
• Meteorological and Photo-recon Flights
What I would like for each section is as follows
Scouting and Patrol:
• Avro Anson - MerlinJones
• Supermarine Stranraer - MerlinJones
• AW Whitley – Jratz
• Boeing Fortress Mk1 ASR – Jratz
• Consolidated Liberator – Jratz
• Avro Shackleton – MerlinJones (1/144) TomW
• HS Nimrod – MerlinJones (1/144) TomW
SAR:
• RAF Rescue Launch – TomW
• Avro Lancaster (or similar) with Airborne Lifeboat - Bluesteel
• B.P. Defiant ASR - TomW
• Westland Wessex - tbc
• Westland Sea King – MerlinJones (1/144)
• RNLI Severn class Lifeboat – tbc
Meteorological and Photo-Recon Flights
• Gloster Gladiator - Jratz
• Hawker Hurricane - TomW
• Supermarine Spitfire - TomW
• HP Hastings - Bluesteel
• Supermarine Spitfire PR version - tbc
• deHavilland Mosquito PR version – Beany
Please read the lists and if you have something suitable or wish to build new then post and I shall update the lists accordingly. Also if you feel that these lists are too ambitious / or certain aircraft will be unavailable due to time / lack of suitable kit or markings then likewise let me know.
Regards
Tom

Re: Telford 2012 Display - Sign-up, Build lists and Chat
Okay Tom.
Sounds like a plan.
I can offer the Revell S-Boat, an Airfix E-Boat and, if required, a Vosper MTB.
For Scouting and Patrol, I have the early Anson and can commit to a Stranraer. I have Shackletons and Nimrod in 1/144.
For SAR, I can only offer 1/144 RAF and RN Sea Kings. If no-one else bites, (and I'd rather they would), I can do a Severn Class Lifeboat. (I also have the old FROG lifeboat, in 1/48).
For the Meteorological and PR, I currently have nothing built, but have Gladiator, Spits, Hurris and a Mossie in The Stash, inc. a PR Spit.
Regards,
Bruce

Tom, see notes
Scouting and Patrol:
• AW Whitley – tbc -- You (or Julian) have my Whitley, although this would be 2nd year at SMW (3rd counting CBK Gems display).
• Consolidated Liberator – tbc -- You (or Julian) have my Trigg's Liberator, which has not been at SMW.
• Boeing Fortress Mk1 ASR – John R (is this still alright John??) Yes, will get thumb out, but recognize it did not actually do an op in this config, just test.
SAR: Nothing I can do, sorry.
Meteorological and Photo-Recon Flights
• Gloster Gladiator - tbc I could do this one, an aircraft from 521 Sqn ?

Re: Telford 2012 Display - Sign-up, Build lists and Chat
OK, I found a good candidate N2309/'B' of 521 Sqn (1401 Met Flt). I have a good picture and color profile; the pictures clearly show the large aerial behind the cockpit and the odd aerial running below the fuselage. I also have met-equipment pix for detail.
Looking in ye olde stash, I have 72nd Gladiators from Pavla, Airfix, FROG, Heller, and Matchbox to chose from -- unless you want it in 48th to balance out Bruce's 144th offerings

Re: Telford 2012 Display - Sign-up, Build lists and Chat
Thankyou gentlemen for your commitments I have updated the lists to reflect this.
In an Ideal World I believe it would be advantageous for Joe Public to see a display in constant scale, this does not mean I am adverse to the use of different scales! Far from it and it is great to know we have quite a few of the subjects covered between just the three of us in all scales.
I am aiming to complete a Shackleton for the display and have a Nimrod that is built but awaiting new decals that may be suitable as well but if I fail to complete them then at least I know all is not lost
I'll try to add a third E-boat, Revell tool but using a different weapons fit to Bruce's one to give even more variety.
Regards

As I used the Flak gun on my S-Boot, I have two spare guns, all made up and ready for installation on a flakship, perhaps.

I've looked through my Gladiators and the top 2 candidates are Heller and Pavla, neither of which I've built before. Pavla has recessed panel lines, Heller has delicately raised. The other three have a mix of recessed lines and raised detail, sometimes heavily so. Amazingly enough all 5 kits measure out pretty closely, have similar detail lines, etc ....

Re: Telford 2012 Display - Sign-up, Build lists and Chat
I have John's Whitley, Liberator and quartet of Polish Mustangs top air cover for the CC Blenheims. Also the Flakship.
I also have an unbuilt Formaplane vacform Hastings with CC Met decal, and an Avro Lancaster Mk III with Lifeboat.
My two problem are that a) I'm not going to Telford this year due to work pressures and b) because of serious illness in the family I am not able to travel far at the moment or in the foreseeable future, so if any of these are needed we'll need to arrange a pick up a reasonable time before hand. Also due to the nature of the family illness (my mother had a major stroke) I cannot guarantee I'll be able to complete a Hastings and or Lifeboat Lanc in time, as I can't forecast the calls on my time - although I am willing to try (I need a distraction...)

Julien, you have my sympathies with your current situation, I understand what you are going through both with work and your mothers illness. I sincerely hope that things will look up for you soon.
As regards picking up the various completed models that we already have, I am quite happy to drive over and pick them up one weekend that suits us both.
That you are willing to try and build the Hastings and the Lancaster is fantastic, I shall put your name down next to them and if they are ready for the show I will again be more than happy to collect them. However Do Not pressure yourself into getting them built, this is but a hobby and the real world has to take precidence.
Again you have my thoughts and sympathies.

Thanks Tom most appreciated.
I'll have a go at the Hastings as I don't think many or anybody else might have one of those and it would be an unusual aircraft to display in CC markings. As it's a vacform it'll take a while to do a half decent job, therefore I'd probably be pushed to do a lifeboat Lanc too. So if anyone else has a Lanc then I'd suggest they sign up too.

Hi Tom,
I am struggling a bit with the list, but have just remembered I have a Tamiya 1/48 Mossie about 75% complete that I was doing in the PR Blue scheme. Will that be of any use to you - if so I'll get it finished for Telford. Also got the Airfix Nimrod which I could throw together but I think Bruce has that covered with a 1/144 version has he not?
Cheers
Al.

Re: Telford 2012 Display - Sign-up, Build lists and Chat
I have been sitting on this image from Chris Ashworth's book on Coastal Command for a while because there didn't appear to be a way to identify the badge on the nose:
Of course the Internet does provide once suitable sacrifices are made and I think it might be an earlier version of this:
A post-war Halifax from the same squadron. What do you guys think? No firm idea on colour but it looks like a Daffy Duck figure or similar and I have a suitable Hurricane and AM markings to give it a go (for the squadron codes etc, the badge will need to be hand painted).
**EDIT**
Now the Defiant SKGB is being pulled I can build my planned ASR Defiant for the CC display instead, I have markings for 276 (ASR) squadron but I cant find a reference to that particular squadron being allocated to CC, it is specifically an ASR machine though and will be a different sight for the table, opinions chaps?? I was thinking of replacing maybe the Wessex or the whirlwind with it.

Right then, 6 weeks to go and I've made a few updates to the list. Al has kindly confirmed that he can build the PR Mossie and I have undertaken both the Hurricane and the Spitfire from the Met Flight section.
I've also dropped the Whirlwind from the ASR section and replaced with the Defiant.
Can everyone please just udate with progress etc and PM me how various kits are getting to me this year, also PM for postal address

Re: Telford 2012 Display - Sign-up, Build lists and Chat
Sorry Tom, but due to a deteriorating family health situation it looks highly unlikely I'll be able to finish the Hastings in time, and might even have to abandon the Defiant GB to become a UAMF lurker for a while until I'm more certain of what's going to happen. Most of my time is now spent between work and Hospital wards and they seem to have a dim view of setting up modelling tables by bedsides. Sorry.
