Grumman F6F-7 Super Hellcat ***Finished***
Re: Grumman F6F-7 Super Hellcat
So, progress to show:
Mainwheels painted and on (dry-fitted only); several coats of GSB now on after adding maskol blobs here and there. I'll leave it there for the evening now to let it dry. I can see a couple of areas where I haven't taken down the previous application of tippex enough. So tomorrow, before more coats of GSB,I'll get rid of them.
Here's the latest state of the F6F-7 in the foreground, with an Academy F6F-5 in the background for comparison.
Now to the stash! Need to see if I can find my Hasegawa Corsair decals for USS Bunker Hill.
regards,
Martin

Wow. That's very good and quite different. Deserves the super title in more ways than one.

Re: Grumman F6F-7 Super Hellcat
Thanks, David and Toby,
Once again my stash confounds me. I could have sworn I had a Hase Corsair somewhere. In fact, I'm sure I have; I've even got an Aires cockpit set for it. However, could I find it? No, I could not. (I also couldn't find the Italeri B variant Stuka I was planning to build in March - I really need to get round to cataloguing what I've got).
Anyway, I have ordered a Techmod decals set for the appropriate Corsair, so we'll see when that arrives. There's plenty to keep me busy in the meantime.
regards,
Martin

Thanks, Kit.
Here's the latest progress. Adding the canopy kind of makes sense of the overall shape (I think?). I need to do a fair bit of tidying up here, as you can see.
The windscreen is drying after its klear bath. It's a bit too narrow for the space, so I'm going to have to use superglue to get it to seat properly. I hope that I can get it to stay in place without cracking or crazing it. Time will tell!

Martin

This is turning out brilliantly, Martin. One of the most credible and best-executed whifs I have seen.

Folks,
Thanks for your comments.
I must admit, the SH's looks are growing on me as we get closer to the finish line. Got a bit more done today: windscreen is superglued on, gaps filled with PVA and painted; built a rear runner for the sliding canopy to hold it at approximately the right angle; couple more coats of GSB, then the main national markings applied.
This is where major progress will stop until the Bunker Hill decals arrive. I'll spend the time painting the remaining small pieces (Pitot, gear doors, radio aerials, external fuel tank, cannon / machine-guns).
regards,
Martin

Thanks, Toby!
Now with added Techmod decals for VF-84 Corsairs from Bunker Hill. What do you think of the new nose?
Just got some weathering to do and some small bits to put on. Hopefully finish by the weekend.

Martin
