Rothmans Racing EE Lightning (Airfix 1/72)

Post by beany »

I've been banging a gong for Clavework Graphics for some time now and when this GB came up I knew exactly what to do with the Airfix EE Lightning I received as a surprise stocking filler in December. I must admit that I've had the image printed for some time and had intended to apply it to the 1/48 Lightning I have, but that is partially started so would be eligible for this GB, so I will use the 1/72 one as a practice piece.

The Rothman Decals are via eBay, from Germany as it turns out. The striping is from Fantasy Print Shop a bit closer to home. I won't be able to exactly replicate the Clavework image as I don't have the ELF Renault lettering for one thing, but I don't think that will matter too much, this is a WHIF after all!

Hopefully this project will inspire me to continue with a similar stalled project I started a while back...

Work has begun

I'm hand painting the blue all over as an undercoat/primer and because I find hand painting relaxing compared with airbrushing.
The blue is Revell Aqua 56 Matt Blue thinned with finest Derbyshire tap water. It looks to be quite a good match for what I imagine
the Rothmans blue looks like.

Sorry Martin, but back to back 12 hour nights means I haven't done any modelling for over three weeks now. This build will get done eventually as I love the idea of it, but I'm sorry to disappoint you guys here by not being able to contribute. Bloody work eh?

It's alright, Al. Life / work has a tendency to get in the way of the best-laid plans. 'Twas ever thus. Anyway, thanks for letting us know and we hope to see your completed build in due course. It looks spectacular.

Martin
