With the cockpit done, major assembly went pretty smoothly. My only other mod was to deflect the elevators slightly downward which seems to have been characteristic of P-47s on the ground. It is now ready for painting.

Painting done, reveal in progress as masking is removed. Having had a lot of problems with even the weakest-tack tape pulling up paint this cold, dry winter, I decided to use tape only for the edges of the masked areas and fill in the rest with Maskol. Seems to have worked pretty well.

Models have fallen behind schedule this week as my furnace broke a few days ago, leaving temps in most of my house just a few degrees above freezing. The models are not allowed to crowd into the warm parts of the house with me and my family. Depending on how soon it is fixed, the P-47 may get finished on time. But it will be close.

Oh boy, You have some troubles there. Hopefully your furnace gets fixed pronto. Even if you can master enough courage to work on models, you need stable not shaking hand :). Furnace is a must with this requirement. :)

I hope you get the heating sorted soon! Our boiler gave up a couple of years ago, and it was not fun at all!
Best wishes

Masks off, paint scheme looks pretty good, just needing the usual touch ups.

Note the unequal width of the fuselage stripes. This is clear from photos of Bonnie but missed by most profile artists and decal researchers. One exception who got it right is our own Mike Grant, whose research for his 1/48 P-47 decal sheet I found to be the most reliable of the several interpretations of this aircraft that are out there.

Furnace should be replaced today (they gave up trying to fix it), still a chance of getting this finished on time or a few days late.

"Another stupid model airplane," observed the ever-perceptive love of my life when she checked in on me at the work desk this afternoon. "Hmm. This one is cute, though, with the stripes." That's about as much of a compliment as my labors will ever earn.

Cute or not, the 1990s vintage Aeromaster decals have proven ornery, not just the rudder stripes but all of them. Luckily I bought some Micro Sol, figuring that the rudder would need additional treatment beyond the usual Future/Klear, and it has come in handy for the other decals as well. Detail parts are being prepped and added at the same time as decaling in an effort to get this done pretty close to the deadline.

Done, with not much time to spare.

Not too much further drama. The only mod I made not discussed above was to cut a 2mm section out of the landing gear struts to correct the ground posture.

Aerial wire is EZ-line.
