Could be and I'm glad I found this schematic before fitting the underwing tanks.Stevehnz wrote:Looking good there Toby, it'll look the part in that scheme though I do question if the two Stars & basr under with wings are correct, noramlly just the one starbopard side. I wonder was this for increased recognition?

Now I'm in a quandary the olive drab I've got isn't anywhere near as green as shown to be on the P47

Underside done.
Olive drab applied. On the instructions it looks a lot greener as does the Wings Palette picture but looking around various websites this is the correct colour so who knows. shock:

Nice going. I do like this, I can see a couple of those kits heading my way after seeing your build take shape. I also found quite a lot of refs to the double underwing stars & bars, including some LPS decals for a Malcolm hood one of these, I think it was probably fitted later in the life of this plane, I've a Tamiya kit to do this with a Rob Taurus canopy.

Two Star n bars, one under each wing was quite normal in ETO. An extra visual to avoid mistaking for Fw190s by AA crews.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Thanks Fred, a new one to me but it does make some sense & gives the model a point of difference.

Re: Toby's Hobbyboss P47D Razorback
One thing this kit lacks and I don't know if Toby could be bothered to fix it; the inner lip in the lower bit of the cowling. It could be made just from a slip of plastic card. The engine support has part of it moulded on, but its not long enough to show. A piece of plastic card could be gently curved and supported by that part.
The Hobby Boss bubble top version has the same lack.

Re: Toby's Hobbyboss P47D Razorback
The Academy one that I am doing for this group build isn't a lot better, a poorly represented aspect of most P-47 kits, other than the Tamiya & maybe Revell in 1/72 scale. I've taken the opportunity to install an improved version in my build, not perfect but better than the kit part, see here http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=312&t=11114 I struggle to see why this short coming isn't high lighted more than it is.

Looking very sharp Toby.
I didn't even know that HB did a P-47. Very cool.
