I think you should be pleased! They stand out nicelyStevehnz wrote:The wing tip lights are my own, I confess to being a bit pleased with the way they turned out. Cut away the molded in wing tip light positions, roughly shape some clear sprue, drill a hole, 0.8mm, in the rear & fill with red or green paint, glue in place, leave to dry over night & shape with emery stick & nail buff, the nail buff brought them nicely back to clear. Fist time I'd tried this having read about it before & was really pleased with the result.

Looking good Steve, seeing this confirms that I should have painted my SEAC stripes.

Cracking paint job, and cool looking wing tip lights. I have done the same in the past but have a tendency to forget until I have applied the paint.

Re: Steve's Academy SEAC Thunderbolt 2
Thanks for the comments all, makes it worth the effort, I'm decalling tonight, will post some more pictures tomorrow when I have some daylight. Its been a frustrating couple of days touching up details. David, the stripes look better in the photos than the flesh as it were. My first lot of Humbrol white was old & took a lot of thinning & was still just a bit gloopy, so hard to get a good smooth finish. I bought a new tin, one of the Made in the UK blue ones & it was thick & gloopy. I've thinned it quite a bit too, so now its very smooth but still too thick but better. I'm not entirely happy with them but they'll do, call it weathering.lancfan wrote:Looking good Steve, seeing this confirms that I should have painted my SEAC stripes.

Re: Steve's Academy SEAC Thunderbolt 2
Sorry all, tomorrow never came, or rather, when it did it brought a heap of strife. Long story short, I'd been careless with gloss coating with Klear every area that was going to get a decal with the result that some of the stencils silvered badly, also the serials, how did I miss that. This didn't show till I put a matt varnish on & I went to bed in disgust. Next day I carefully slit along 3 sides of the bigger problem decals with a sharp scalpel blade & teased the edge of the silvered decals up with the scalpel before using a stiffish brush to flood under the decals with straight Klear. They all settled down OK other than some of the smaller stencils that I didn't do this too but chose to retouch them with paint as close into the script as I could. Here is the end result of this, some retouching in evidence. Where I'd glossed properly, the decals settled very well with my usual method of bedding them with diluted Klear.
After my next days on, it was time to sort out the last components, everything came together pretty quickly now.
Apart from the hiccup with the decalling & the gloopy white paint, I was pleased with this build, I've really enjoyed being part of this group build, thanks to Davis for hosting it.

Great result mate. I should have painted the identification stripes too.
