That is where I went wrong with mine, and consequently had quite a few knocks to repair whilst handling it. Lesson learnt.lancfan wrote:As this is very thin I will cover it with a thin coat of gloss varnish before continuing with separate panels in other shades of "silver" paint.

Re: Lancfan's Egyptian Trainer
I was very pleased with the panel effect I have achieved and I continued with different shades of silver. To prevent spoiling this with masking tape damage I brushed these new separate panels with thinned paint to lose any possibility of brushmarks spoiling the effect. This done I realised that the real aircraft had a fin fillet so out came the plastic card.
This is how the model looks now with the cockpit & engine unmasked, the decking painted in Olive drab, the sky band around the rear fuselage and the undercarriage legs glued in place.

That's looking great Lancfan! What type of paints are you using, lacquer, enamel, acrylic and what brand(s)?

Re: Lancfan's Egyptian Trainer
That NMF effect has turned out really well. I might have to try that later.
I have just discovered Revell Aquacolor paints myself and I must say that I am very impressed with the metalic colours.
Keep up the good work.

I have to say the shading on the panels has turned out really well.

Thanks O_T, Toby. since taking the last pictures I have applied the decals and begun the weathering and the model should soon be finished.

Re: Lancfan's Egyptian Trainer
The next step was to cut away the backplate from the intake splitter and scratch a more realistic carburettor/turbo intake duct. This was then painted and fitted into the cowling ring which was in turn fitted to the model, the top of the cowling was then masked up and the Olive Drab was extended to the front of the nose and the model was then ready for decals.
The Xtradecals are now down, some of the more noticeable kit stencil transfers will be added to these and drop tanks will be fitted along with a little weathering before the model is varnished overall.
