It's the good ol' YCNHTM Spitfire GB - any kit, any scale, any era, and mark, it's just got to be a Spitfire/Seafire ...

Is this the same monkey that typed out Hamlet, or a different guy? Maybe I can hire this primate to paint my models?

I think that one went into space.

I don't know any painting monkeys, but there's an elephant at Phoenix Zoo who does a lovely line of watercolours.....

Not a lot of progress to report from eh last two weeks - been busy finishing up my Firefly. However, the weekend is clear and I hope to get the majority of paintwork done, then it's just fiddly bits for next weekend.....

Nothing to take pics of...! What pics would you want to see? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...? :ha:

I DID just paint the black undersides on one of the Spits, but that isn't particularly exciting. Unless you like looking at photos of paint drying..... :ha:

Some more (out of focus) pics of paint drying:

Spits were masked with blutak, then sprayed with Dk Green. The big reveal:

Don't worry - they aren't that fuzzy in real life.....

Paint has dried. Now for photos of decals drying.... :ha:

BTW, here's the undersides of the early war version:

Image

...and the pair as they sit tonight:

Image

The 3D Kits Mk.II conversion consists of; 1. a new Rotol propeller with blunt spinner, 2. A replacement seat and control column (both used in these models, though barely noticeable. 3. decals for appropriate aircraft. This set can also be used to make a Mk.I with Rotol prop, as I am doing. In addition, the IILR conversion set includes the wing fuel tank. Unfortunately, it appears 3D Kits has just gone out of business, so grab these little sets while you can, so you can make some different Spitfires for your collection.

The Mk.I - the one with b+w undersides and black spinner - marked as an aircraft of 54 Sqn in March 1940, while the other model will be a Mk.IILR of 152 Sqn in August 1941.

Next step is to put on a coat of matt varnish, then the fiddly bits. Almost there!
