Back, after a nice long weekend in Charleston, SC - model show, dining, shopping ....

And here we start forcing the fuselage to close up. I had previously glued the interior into the right side.

And we proceeded along, section by section, until ....

And it'll sit and cure for a day, I don't want the whole thing to spring apart from some unwanted stress ....

It looks like a lot of fitting, filling, and filing will be needed to get the fuselage and wing mated up. My test fit, without glue, went better but that's history now ....

Remember K5054 was pretty much hand-built ....

It doesn't look the easiest of kits, and it is disappointing the lack of attention that has been taken to the uniqueness of the prototype's construction, but you are certainly making up for that!

Nice work getting the fuselage together, fitting the wings should add a bit more rigidity to the structure.

You cannot see the superglue basted on inside

I can see some re-re-scribing will be necessary

Looks like the positive waves from the group and no little skill worked wonders. One helluva impressive save there! 8-)

Positive vibes from the group YES, working wonders not so much.

The purple marks where the interior and the resin futz collide and I must take all that down - fit, fuss, fit, fuss ....

Image

Having done that I tired to carefully line up the wings and fuselage and tack together.

Image

But alas, it's not good as can be seen by the filler ....

This is really going to look hand built ! I think more than the actual prototype did. I think I can sand most of this into a rought shape. I am concerned about the amount of filler, especially of the fillets because it makes scribing tough as well as getting a smooth finish. There is more rescribing than I thought, especially on the underside.

I haven't the time to start all over and so will plough on, looking for the next ray of sunshine. I've got a few busy days ahead of me, so don't expect much until next week. I am disappointed that I am chewing into my painting time and to me that was the whole idea, to interpret the finish ....

And, it is March Madness ... cuts into the modeling time, even though my brackets are a mess already ....

I'm calling it quits. I sanded for a while but that doesn't cure some major issues, mostly a mismatch between fillets. I don't have enough time for this and if I did, the finish would be junk.

I should have started from an Airfix Mk.I. Or better yet I should have finished my 1.48 Tamiya Mk.I conversion a couple years ago then I would have checked this off my bucket list already ....

Sorry, but life is too short and I have other things to do ....

Never mind, I reckon many of us would have put this aside long before now. From your post 'tone' it seems it's the right decision to put it away, not worth pushing it and harassing yourself.

This has happened to us all at some point John, you made the right decision in not trying to rush it when it obviously has too many problems for the time available to you.
