it is a great little build. The cockpit is a tight fit so file carefully and there should be NOOOOOOOOOO problems.

Re: Look up and smile, Spitfire PRXIX
It virtually builds itself but as Jeff suggests, a little extra care with the cockpit assembly will pay good dividends
Best wishes

Keep meaning to get one of these so it will be interesting to see how it builds up.

The parts and decals
Some very large sprue gates on this one, but the plastic is soft so I cut away from the parts and sanded back the remaining nub
A couple of hours had me here
The cockpit isn't yet glued into the fuselage, nor are the halves joined, it's just fit in until the glue sets and all pieces are in their correct positions.

One of the earliest of the 'new' Airfix tools and its a real reminder of how far they've come in only a few years. Good quick progress on the kit too.

Re: Look up and smile, Spitfire PRXIX
No instrument panel decal was supplied so I cut one off a sheet that I had downloaded from somewhere. Probably not applicable to the PRXIX but adds interest. Just control column and belts to add
I've gone over the white edges with a black Sharpie. Then it was time for a small experiment. The clear piece for the belly cameras was not the best of fits so I've decided to fill these holes with one of two substances, those being these
Your standard PVA/white glue on the left available at nearly every hardware store and even some supermarkets, and Testors own brand of canopy glue. The results
PVA on the left, and Testors on the right. First impressions sees the prize going to Testors, but after they'd both dried they looked like this
Nothing in it really. Testors maybe looks a bit clearer, but I think that may be because that window is a little bit smaller. The PVA was easier to draw around the hole because it is a little bit thicker. I'll leave both as they are for painting and remove them afterwards. And then replace them

Re: Look up and smile, Spitfire PRXIX
Todays efforts had me add tape belts and the control column to the cockpit
Cut the lap belt a little too short
Tizzied up the sidewalls with some colour and a dirty wash, Citadel Nuln Oil
It all fits but you can't see much when it's all closed up
Used a black Sharpie to put some colour where the radiators will be, quicker and easier than paint, unless you have black on your brush
More soon.

Looking good Nigel, and a sneaky trick with the Sharpie that I will have to try to remember.

Nice work and great set of photos of your build.
Useful to see your PVA v Testors experiment.
