Oh go on Mark. Graft a Mamba to the nose while you're about it.

That would look awesome 8-)

There is a picture of the Mamba test bed on the net, overall NMF, Napier titles under the cockpit, class B registration on the fuselage and it was fitted with Lincoln fins.

Seriously tempting chaps!!. Maybe the next Lanc!....
I've built six on various guises so far (one as a Lincoln, one as a Manchester, one Mk.II, two Dambuster Lancs and one Grand Slam, so what's one more!?!.
(I've heard you can never have too many Lancasters!!. Or did I hear wrong?).
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Thanks for that chaps, some cracking pics there. Don't think I've got the time to do ALL of them!! .
Lancfan: the first pic I've found but the second is very, very useful. It does look like a much wider nacelle than the standard Merlin one so more work may be needed. They do look fuller so that's helpful thank you.
Splash: Stop putting ideas in my head!! . Still fancy the Mamba one though.....

You can have a lack of money, time, storage, or in general, Lancs, but too many is difficult. There's not much point to these heavies unless you can muster a thousand bomber raid

<Sound of grinding braincells>
Now that would be a group display to remember  . Can anyone think of an excuse and a way to recruit several hundred builders??

It'll need one hell of a table cloth as well  :-D
Best wishes

Not really. A medium sized sign with an arrow and the text "Look up" doesn't take all that much room. Getting them all suspended 12 feet AGL will take a bit of doing though..

underneath the display might be a bit dark due to the lack of light  but that would be an advantage as it would have been a night raid 8-) .

If you did the display on the ground we could use up all the Airfix re-arming sets in everyone's stashes :-D

I'd better get on building and steer this thread back to the model!!. Although it is a brilliant idea, wonder how long it would take?..... ;-)

OK, the first 1000-bomber raid was May '42 so we could commemorate the 75th anniversary in May, 2017. Although they weren't all Lancasters, we surely could accumulate enough kits to represent the proper proportion of aircraft types to be ready by then .... A number of gallons of black, earth, and green paint also ....

Okay, main part of the Lanc done, still painting the tails so they will go on once done. Engines still underway, have used the pics supplied by Lancfan and Splash to 'fatten up' the outer nacelles and a little on the inner ones.
Image
Image
These have twelve black and twelve yellow stripes so masking to come!!.
Image
And the scratch built propeller 'hubs' as some with these engines had no spinners, such as the one from 635 Squadron that I am doing.
