One wee point & I'm not sure if you knew & weren't bothered or not but the photo etch on the right side of the cockpit is the flight engineers panel for a Lancaster, with 4 sets of everything whereas a Manchester would have had a panel with only 2, likewise the throttle/mixture levers to the right of the control column below the main instrument panet would only have 2 of each, not sure if you were intending to show this too. Hope this hasn't put the fox among the hens.

Topside camouflage colors of Dark Earth and Dark Green have been added. Now onto masking and painting the black on bottom and sides. I do believe it's beginning to look like a Manchester.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Okay, I need some help at this stage of the build. The aircraft is mostly complete wand waiting for final touch-up. However, I was wondering which ordinance should be used to fill the bomb bay. I realize that the Manchester did not have the carrying capacity of the Lancaster and probably would not carry the 4,000 lb cookies, but what would be a realistic load?

The bombs available at the time were mainly 250lb, 500lb and 1000lb bombs , there were also air dropped sea mines at 1500lb. another option was the incendiary. If you have 14 spare 500 pounders (Airfix Stirling?) these would make a full load. Page 103 of the SAM datafile shows the options for the Manchester, if you PM your email I can send you a jpg of the drawing.Chuck Finley wrote: I realize that the Manchester did not have the carrying capacity of the Lancaster and probably would not carry the 4,000 lb cookies, but what would be a realistic load?

I might have a few 500-pounders if you want them.lancfan wrote:The bombs available at the time were mainly 250lb, 500lb and 1000lb bombs , there were also air dropped sea mines at 1500lb. another option was the incendiary. Thanks, the Hasegawa kit has a nice selection of ordinance so I'll just leave off the Cookie and use the remainder. I think those are 250lb bombs.DazDaMan wrote:I might have a few 500-pounders if you want them.lancfan wrote:The bombs available at the time were mainly 250lb, 500lb and 1000lb bombs , there were also air dropped sea mines at 1500lb. another option was the incendiary. The build is finished. Now, on to touching up the paint and decals. The setting is a new airfield module I am building for my HO scale layout.

Very nice work. Looking forward to seeing this one finished. I still have a part built Manchester that I did the hard way (MUCH slicing of wings) that I started probably about 10 years ago. This is giving me inspiration.

Nice work. I like the weathering. What colour did you paint your tyres? I'd like to try that.

Thats a bit nice Chuck, the unloved & unlovely Manchester is one of those planes I've not had an inclination to model but after seeing this one of yours......, I'm not feeling quite so adamant about this now.
