Yet another 104 **Finished**

Post by fredk »

Yup, another one, or maybe two. Its all I have wot fits the GB. I have two Matchbox TF104G, both without decals. However I have a sheet to do one as a German one. Dunno what the other one will be as I don't want two similarly marked ones.

I've noticed that neither of these kits have pilots, which is rather unusual for Matchbox kits.
And I have Aeroclub white metal seats for a German version. They serve two purpose; 1/ they are better detailed, 2/ they add weight to the nose.

A bit done; a basic interior made up and painted black and some lead added;
Image

These are the Aeroclub seats. I had to add the pull handle to the top. They're not as detailed as more modern resin ones, but they look far better than the kit ones.
Image

Fuselage closed up and the sections glued together. I want to put some filler in some of the joints, a few gaps to cover up;

After I do the filling and sanding its all straight forward, just adding most of the sticky out bits, then painting.

At bed time tonight; ready for masking up and painting;

I'll have to bend the wings up, there's too much anhedral. The tanks are will be only mm from the ground after I put the main wheels on.

You've got that together quickly. Did you just mount the tanks on the pegs or cut a slot in tank? Mine are a loose fit on the pins.

I just superglued the tanks to the pins. I'll have to crack them off and re-do as I've bent the wings upwards.

I thought I'd posted an update a few days ago.

Since the last photo the underneath got a coat of Humbrol 56 aluminium, then a coat of Vallejo silverwhite
Image
You can see another error in this kit, which I didn't see until after the paint was on. This version does not have the cannon in the fuselage. Its removed because of the weight of the extra cockpit.

Then the top got a coat of basalt grey;
Image

Since these photos I masked off the splinter pattern and painted the dark green. Have to the white nose, white undercoat on the wing tanks, paint the canopy frame..... Should be able to get this finished this weekend.

I really like this Frog tape. I slice it into thin strips of about 1 to 2mm wide and use it to border the paint. Even painting right along it I haven't had any seepage under it. The only time paint has got under is when I've not rubbed it down too well. I'm using the low tack version, but I'm going to try the regular type cos I find that the low tack is sometimes just not sticky enough.

That's coming along very well. Would you say Frog tape is better than Tamiya?

Cracking on Fred, I never noticed the cannon either. I think I may have to fill and sand mine back now. Curses.
