As promised I did make a start on the Sukhoi last week and this is where things stand at the moment:

The cockpit is very simple but with some paint and the distortions from the canopy it should pass muster:

This will be good. I've been looking up info on this. Those Sukhois were MUCH bigger than I realized. Interesting wing pivot location too - only the Russian seem to have built planes in that config.

Aye, and that wing set looks like you'll need five hand to get it to mate with the fuselage,
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Cheers guys  it is a big ole lump of plastic but it has a brutish charm about it. The wing sweep mechanism looks complex but is very simple to assemble in reality:

As you can see the wings attach separately and then the slide bar drops into the channel at the top. This is held in place by the spine of the aircraft once I fit it. Overall a solid and serviceable bit of engineering, just like the aircraft itself

:) Summer sun, sand, water and... cement and concrete mixer ....
In this way are glued Su planes from Mastercraft/Pantera. ;)
Remained nose to the filling too, I think. You replace barrels for made of needles for injection, or will be "original"?

You're quite right Przemek in that the nose still needs its gaps filling, that'll be tomorrow's job as my arms need a rest from all the sanding :ha: . I am probably going to replace the gun barrels with some thinner section plastic rod as I haven't got any hollow metal rod available at the moment.

Absolutely Paul, but there aren't a lot of other options if I want a 1/72 Su-17/20/22.

I still surprised that large firms (tamiya, academy, hobby boss, Hasegawa and others) still ignore modern Russian Sukhoi or MiG aircraft.
Maybe Eduard will have mercy for us...
But I've probably due to poor eyesight I would do the models in 1/32 in this time..

As am I Przemek, they are so much more attractive than yet another Spitfire ;-) :ha:

First coat of Hu103 on today:

The missing areas on the wings were left in natural metal just in case anyone is wondering.

It's coming on a treat Tom.

I'll bet you were glad to get the cement mixer out of your modelling room ;-)
