Brickie's Zimbabwean Hawk >> Finished <<

Post by Brickie »

Staking out a piece of ground for this - it's the school Easter hols so I've got a 7-year-old underfoot, and I don't know when I'll actually be able to start!

I'll be watching this, I've got Tom Coopers book which has these in them, just wish I could find some decals for one, its a nice scheme. Bring it on.

I'm using this decal set:

Not quite decided what kit yet but probably the old 1970s Matchbox one which I grabbed for a couple quid at Huddersfield.

Thanks Brickie. I've looked for this in the past. I'm guessing maybe the best idea is to ask if anyone has one & doesn't intend using the Zimbabwe component of the decals. Maybe when Easter is behind us, meantime I'll watch & enjoy your build.

I'm intending to build as many from it as I can but there are two Zim options so I may be able to spare one of them :)

Nice choice. I like seeing non-RAF Hawks so looking forward to your build.

Right, bugalugs back at school, backlog of errands (mostly) cleared, new car and new cat acquired. Time to do some modelling...

Here's the kit.

Classic Matchbox coloured sprues

Image
Clear sprues in good nick, and a stand, which I'll be making use of so I don't need to piffle about with undercarriage.

Good idea with the stand Brickie, I always find Hawk undercarriage a bit fiddly with its knock-kneed stance.

The bay interiors are a bit rudimentary on this kit too.

Progress!

The office given a basic paintjob

... and the main assemblies put together. Almost seamless fit between the fuselage halves, trenches like the death star between fuselage and wing.

Great job covering the red plastic. I've always found it a bit challenging. What colour / paint is that?
