Tom's Pakistani MiG **Finished**
My second planned build for this GB is a Shenyang F-6 (license built MiG-19) of the Pakistani Air Force:
The kit is the Bilek / Mastercraft / ZTS rejig of the old KP molds. Detail is mostly recessed but there aren't any attachment points:
Instructions have paint callouts for Humbrol which is handy but the decals are an unknown quantity so fingers crossed :
Regards
Tom

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
Did they have the Mig's in 1960 if so Your Mig might have seen action against my Seahawk.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
Lifted straight from Wikipedia so no guarantees as to accuracy but:
The F-6 was flown by the Pakistan Air Force from 1965 to 2002, the aircraft design undergoing around 140 modifications to improve its capabilities in the interceptor and close air support roles. The PAF F-6 fighters participated in the Indo-Pak War 1971 against India, scoring approximately 6 confirmed aerial victories including one Indian Mig-21. The three Pakistani J-6 squadrons flew nearly a thousand sorties, during which the PAF lost 3 F-6 to ground fire and one in aerial combat. An F-6 was also lost to friendly fire. The single seat F-6 was retired from the Pakistani Air Force in 2002, but the two-seat trainer, the FT-6, remains in service in very small numbers.
So no Seahawk vs MiG-19 encounters as far as I can tell Alan. But they did apparently go toe to toe with Hawker Hunters.
Regards
Tom

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
I would not worry about decals, they will do. Somehow, I had never a problem with older ZTS decals.
Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
Looks like a fairly nice kit actually. I always liked the -19, thought it had a lot of character.

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
I have this kit still in the unfinished pile from 20-30 years ago.
This was my first airbrushed camo (and pretty much haven't used an airbrush since, long story) in the older Pakistani camo.
My decals were a very bright green so I have replacements from an old Microscale sheet.
Watch the wings as mine have a definite droop towards the wing tips. One of the reasons I stopped.
Will look forward to seeing what you do with the kit and the grey camo.

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
TomW - I am happy with your next idea
Just like those planes. Maybe because in Poland there were so many Russian weapon and other construction, that I regard them as "own"? ;)
I have this model before me. The parts are arranged differently (perhaps even the original KP in ZTS box), and I have decals to aircraft Egyptian (Six-Day War), Pakistani and Chinese. But I have no instrument panel You will not be afraid decal. I've never had a problem with them. How do you want, I'll check some "on the side" and I tell you.
As I know, the two-tone gray finish on F-6 was applied in the 1980s.
Here is your "Farmer" in cloud
And if it's not a secret - the price on the box is a "april joke"?...

I've this kit in my stock too so I'll be watching avidly to see how you go with this, what the pluses & minuses are. Carry on with the good work.

Just to say that work will commence in a couple of days as I am currently away seeing family, not a lot of time for modelling.

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
I built the KP kit years ago Tom. It's definitely one of their better models.

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
Okay so finally I got to make a start on my multiple GB entries this week. Lots of clean-up of every part has been required as well as some re-shaping of the nose contours and the tail cone:
The wings are not the greatest matchup, the starboard wing has quite a difference between upper and lower halves but the port is pretty good:
Despite the work needed so far it's not a bad kit
Regards
Tom

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
Tom it looks like a big improvement over the old KP kit.

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
I wish they kitted wings on these as one, not consisting of upper/lower. That way you would get rid of half of misalignment issues. But id does look somewhat more user friendly than KP

Re: Tom's Pakistani MiG
Made some more headway on the F-6 over the weekend, nose weight installed:
And the fuselage then closed up, it all came together pretty nicely without any gappage both above and below:
The wings however are another story and are going to need a lot of fettling:
Still at least things are starting to look like a MiG
Regards
