Chip's Fouga Magister***Finished***

Post by Molly-new »

My second build will be an Airfix Fouga Magister in Israeli Air Force colours.

Image

Not many parts so this should be a quick build.

Image

I will probably go for one of the earlier camo schemes of pale brown and dark grey/blue over light grey for this one to add some variety to my IAF collection.

First task was to deal with this:

Image

It is actually embossed where the cockpit tub is meant to fit.

Nothing that a bit of sand paper and elbow grease couldn't get rid of though.

With the raised lettering removed and the 4 main parts of the tub joined together they all got a coat of black:

I have also made a start on the crew figures which are quite nicely molded, I just hope that I can do them justice with a bit of fine detail painting.

The cockpit is quite well detailed, and fairly accurate in it's molding. I have added a bit of colour to add some interest to it, and added the crew:

This fits neatly into the fuselage, and leaves a space into which I have added some lead weight:

Not sure if the weight is necessary but better to be safe than sorry. ;-)

That's my approach too Chip, if it has a tricycle undercarriage then its gets a lead nose  This is looking like very good progress so far.

Managed to get the wings on, a good fit with "no filler required" :-D :

Image

Next up is to fit all the little parts on that I will probably knock off whilst painting it.

I am really starting to have a thing for this aircraft. ...and the thing usually ends in a model being purchased. :). Nice work so far.

Go for it Marek, it is a nice build, I just wish I had more time to devote to the building of it.

The good news is that after a coat of primer I managed to get the bottom coat of grey on:

Image

The bad news is that my airbrush is playing up which tends to really throw my MOJO off. I will persevere and try to get this done within the time line.

You can do it. You've got the the best part of a week yet, including the weekend days.
Here's an idea; try a paint brush, I hear they're rather handy. [I'm just ragging you]
I hate it when the ole a/b plays up. I haven't touched mine for months cos I can't be bovvered to sort it. Mine probably needs a jolly good cleaning.

TBH Fred when I re-started modelling I was a great advocate of the paint brush, but after switching over to the 'dark side' and seeing the results that an airbrush gives I am well and truly converted. So much so that I have gone out and bought a new brush rather than struggle on with the old one. I was intending to get some paint on this today but on opening my tin of paint found that it had dried up. Back to the model shop tomorrow for more supplies.

At least with the airbrush working again it should not take long to get this painted.
