Lancfan's Curtiss XP-55 Ascender ***FINISHED***

The one you have all been waiting for - Vac(u)-formed kits. Any subject, any kit, so long as the basis of the kit is vac-form (no, you can't enter an injection airplane with a vac-canopy). Started kits are eligible, within reason - this is a learning GB to introduce members the variety of kits, what can be accomplished with them, and to overcome any reluctance to add them to your modeling repertoire.
This is an extended GB, running 4 April to 31 May, and your hosts are Lancfan, SJPONeill, and Splash.

Looks good. I am using same technique myself (for first time) to create white serial number decals for mine. Is it just a case of a small brush and a steady hand or are there any other tips you have?

Cheers VV, very true- the decals have been painted in and the canopy is in place, the end is now very near.

The main undercarriage legs were simply cut down from spares box units but the noseleg needed to be scratchbuilt starting with the main strut made up from stretched sprue and glued into an hole drilled into the plastic card spine, the retraction jack was made from another piece of sprue..
Image

The nosewheel/fork itself came from the spares box and was glued to the trimmed sprue noseleg, this will be left overnight before any weight is placed on it.

I still look at this and can't believe that whole rear end is carved from balsa. Great job.

Finished just in time, well 23.25 hrs on the final day of the build, I'm not entirely happy with everything but I will call this finished.

Very nice result, David. Great modelling skill applied to the rear fuselage and thanks for showing how to do decals and then paint them in so they merge with the camo.

Really excellent job on this, David. Some truly impressive scratchbuilding skills with that balsa addition.

Splendid job, built in the true spirit of vacforming, i.e. don't complain, make do, mend and just get on with it.
