I must admit the flex in the plastic makes it easier to pull apart if need be.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: Splash's large Wyvern
OK the body and wings cleaned up with little effort and I have sanded down the starboard fuselarge to wing join so that the wing should lie flat and at 90 degrees to the tail
I have stuck the wing on and will leave it until it's fully set befor covering it with filler.
The tail planes have not been stuck down yet I want to sort the main wings first.

Re: Splash's large Wyvern
Having now got the wings on straight, I have a bit of a step between the underside and the wing forward and aft, so I'm stuck in the good old fil/sand/fill/sand routine.
Once this sanding cycle is over, progress should speed up.

One more skim of filler should have the underside sorted.

I'm impressed with the fineness of detail (speed brake, panel lines, etc) for a vac model.

Re: Splash's large Wyvern
Are you using those tape lines between tail and tailplanes to get/keep the correct angle while cementing?

Re: Splash's large Wyvern
Cheers guys, after a coat of grey primer it has shown up some little bits that need attention around the wing to body join that needs attention.
There is no way I'm going to finish on time so I will move the build over onto the aviation thread and finish in slow time.
I have learnt lots of new skills working with vac forms and have started to like them, this kit has been a joy to work on the design and thought that has gone into it by the designer shows what can be achieved by non mainstream kit manufactures, sadly I think the day of the vac form is coming to an end with the introduction of CAD, 3D printing and resin, the need for vac form kits is nearly at an end.

Re: Splash's large Wyvern
Then, they said the same of paper kits and they are thriving with digital technology. It may be that these new technologies enable the development of better molds but until a 3d printer can roll out a 1/72 Saro Princess or 1/32 Vulcan I think there will be a place for vacforms, especially for the large and weird and wonderful...splash wrote: ...sadly I think the day of the vac form is coming to an end with the introduction of CAD, 3D printing and resin, the need for vac form kits is nearly at an end.
