Daz's BBMF Spitfire **FINISHED**

Post by DazDaMan »

I'm hoping to be able to include this Spit in the GB:

(My boxing is an earlier version.)

The scheme I've chosen is this one, worn by long-time BBMF aircraft AB910, which wore several variations of this basic scheme throughout her early BBMF career:

I even have a four-blade prop assembly and the (in)correct 6-stub exhaust pipes needed for this one, so it could be fun!

I've painted and assembled the cockpit parts, but forgot to take pics!

However, the model's fuselage has been buttoned up. The prop looks a bit strange strapped to the front of a Mk.VB, but hey, that's what it had!!

OK chaps, a bit of a dilemma.

AB910 wore two different applications of the same 92 Squadron markings during her early years with the BBMF - one with the A-scheme:

and the other with the B-scheme:

Now, before I do anything stupid (like painting the rest of the camouflage on), can I have a vote as to which scheme to go for?

The A is a bit more visually appealing, but the B is a bit more significant, since '910 was wearing this scheme when she collided with a Harvard on take-off at an airshow at Bex, Switzerland, in the late 1970s.

Do 'em both! Symmetrical A/B combo. :-D

Perhaps more helpfully, I'd do the A scheme. This is based solely on my view of the aesthetics of the thick squadron codes. I don't like the angularity on the B scheme picture.

However, if history is your thang . . . .

Looking at my decals, they are a bit more rounded so wouldn't be quite right on the B-scheme.

Looking good. I'd go for B myself, but either is going to look good.

The "A" lettering looks better to my eye. So another vote for A :)

A Facebook discussion has also voted for A, so A it is!
