Andrew's Auster Antarctic *Finished*
Here is the kit.
Locate and cement instructions
I may add some of the interior bracing to pep this up a bit.
Decals will need sourcing from spares and home printing.

Great choice Andrew - I've always fancied building this kit.
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Re: Andrew's Auster Antarctic
Tricky bit will be aligning the sides of the fuselage with the canopy - canopy is too narrow. A bit of dry fitting is forecast!Sir T wrote:Great choice Andrew - I've always fancied building this kit.

Re: Andrew's Auster Antarctic
A day off, as it's my birthday
Added some 0.75mm square rods to widen the fuselage.
The plastic is very brittle and I snapped off a bit of the tail.
I also have the wings together. No location pins on this kit, so it's a bit like a limited run kit! Quite a lot of ejector pin marks and some flash to deal with.
Got to pop out and get orange paint now!
cheers

Re: Andrew's Auster Antarctic
Having got some thin styrene rod along with the orange paint, I've put together the interior bracing and added a couple of proper seats.
The canopy surround will need building up with square rod so that the canopy lines up with the upper fuselage.
I'm also going to find some thin brass rod to make wing spars, so I can replace the upper canopy section with acetate sheet. This has been fun to this point.
The nose is being lengthened to keep the proportions right following the widening operation.
cheers

Re: Andrew's Auster Antarctic
Having built this kit and attempted canopy framing and cockpit detailing, I know how much work is needed there. That looks fantastic!

Re: Andrew's Auster Antarctic
Thanks everybody. Surprisingly, that didn't take very long to put together, because all the fuselage spacers are the same square section rod, and the internal framing are the same round section rod (rather overscale of course, but doing it to scale would have been too delicate in plastic). It took around three hours to put that together.
It's going to take longer to blend everything together!

Re: Andrew's Auster Antarctic
So, now the nose is blended and the tail added.
I've also added extra strips at the cockpit sides to raise the canopy.
My next move is to dry fit the canopy and blend in those strips.
