Lancfan's 'NEW' Spitfire Vb ***FINISHED***
Here are the box and contents shots ready for the start, beginning with the terrific NEW Spitfire VB box artwork, the sprues and instructions and finally a shot of the full paperwork that came with the kit back in 1974.

Does anyone have a letter we can see?
Did you know that D1ck Emery was a pilot and at different times owned two different DH Tiger Moths.

Good thing this isn't a forum about 1970s tv cookery shows!

The build will start by detailing the cockpit, the first job is to remove the cockpit mounting rails and IP halves from the fuselage side inner faces and thin down the sidewalls to make room for a new cockpit interior.
The new cockpit has been made out of Das Clay taken from a set of DIY Miliput moulds.
When removed from the mould the parts were fitted to the fuselage halves and painted.
The wing and fuselage were then assembled.

Re: Lancfan's 'NEW' Spitfire Vb
A new pilots' seat has been cast from epoxy using a plasticene mould and the lower cockpit has been built up on the wing centre section. A hole has been drilled into each side of the fuselage for the IFF antenaes.
The wings have been glued in place.
This model will be finished as an ASR mkVb. There are a few small changes to make starting with a locating hole for the two smoke bombs under the fuselage offset to port, also the pilot holes have been drilled for the dinghy chutes under the rear fuselage.

Ah... I'll be interested to see what the modifications are you're doing David as when I built my ASR Spitfire I suspected I should have done some mods.
It's looking great by the way!

Thanks Stuart, the changes are very simple and can be easily made to your existing model.

Re: Lancfan's 'NEW' Spitfire Vb
The wheel wells have been filled in with plasticene and the holes for the dinghy chutes have been drilled out and covered with masking tape discs, the model is now ready for masking and painting. The colour scheme I have chosen is from the Xtratadecals D-Day set X72194 for an ASR. Vb aircraft BL591 of 277 ASR Sqdn, the colour scheme is a little involved with a lot of masking needed to build up the paint work on the fuselage.
The basic colour scheme was next built up but when searching for images of ASR hurricanes I found a picture of this very Spitfire -and it had clipped wings so out came the saw and the wings were duly clipped and the paintwork touched in.
The decals were then applied and the model was varnished ready for final assembly.
