Re: Kit's Airfix Wesland Scout
That'll look really good when done - it's a smart looking helicopter!
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Re: Kit's Airfix Westland Scout
It's a neat little kit. The only issue is the fit of the main transparency. A bit of blending in will be required. I didn't know there was a detail set for it though. I shall have to get myself one of these.

Re: Kit's Airfix Westland Scout
I think this was the third kit I ever made. The canopy ended up being a bit sticky, as I recall!

Re: Kit's Airfix Westland Scout
Hopefully the version I have chosen will alleviate most of the known problems with fitting the canopy (famous last word )
Anyway got some work done in the cockpit area as it is a bit basic as it comes.
Sorry for the blurry last pic but the macro decided to take a hissy, but hopefully you can see the representative wiring to make the area behind the panel look busy. Bit of painting next then hammering some lead to fit it under the floor

Nice work on the cockpit.
I spent a couple of years flying in Wasp's, off the back end of a frigate as an AS12 Missile Aimer, back in the mid 70's, from what I recall the cockpit in the Scout/Wasp looked very much like what you have done.
Keep up the good work.

Re: Kit's Airfix Westland Scout
Thanks for the kind words lads, glad I got it at least recognizable Splash
Starting on the engine deck now, comparison shots between the Airwaves set and the anorexic Airfix offering. Airfix is on the right mounted on a plastic base
Now I have to busy it up with some pipework and boxes, though not as much as the real thing , just enough to look fullish

That's looking very good. Nice work so far. I have this kit so looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Re: Kit's Airfix Westland Scout
That's a big improvement on the old engine.
The wasp/scout had loads of power for such a light weight helicopter and could pack a punch for example the wasp could carry two Mk44 or one Mk46 torpedo, two Deapth charges, Four SS11 or two AS12 missiles or one 600lb Nuclear Depth Charge.
The scout did not need to pack such a big punch so only carried GPMG's and the four SS11 in the anti tank role. But even with a full load of pilot plus four passengers was very agile at nap of the earth flying due to its power to weight ratio of that big engine.

Re: Kit's Airfix Westland Scout
Made a start on detailing the engine now,
Only going to be representative as there is more than a little pipework visible on this thing

Re: Kit's Airfix Westland Scout
As long as it looks "busy", it'll be an improvement on the kit.
