Purplethistles 5 in a day Hurri*** Finished***
I'll be doing UP-A, P3308, the Hurri in which Archie McKellar shot down 5 Bf109s in a single day.

Those markings are ringing a bell.
I'm sure I saw a photo of a restored Hurricane wearing them a looooong time ago!

There have been 2 repaints as Archies Hurris, UP-A, in which he scored many of his kills, and UP-M, which he was flying when he was killed. I actually pass the cemetery where he is buried, every day on my way to work, it's only about half a mile from my house.

A fitting tribute, then.
This isn't the photo I remember seeing, but it IS this aircraft!

Hopefully.
Paisley & Renfrew Council have a Blue Plaque on the house where he was born. A nice touch.
I'll need to wait until I'm home to see the photo, Damn filtering!

Archies Hurri buttoned up, pre-shaded and awaiting a smidgen of filler along the seam. Archie will be fitted into the seat and harnesses added then. At the moment I've changed the pilot head position to look to the side and down and I'm trying to carefully separate the four fingers of the right hand to show him signifying to his 'erk' the four kills he got on the morning sortie. (The 5th was that afternoon)

Nice start, I take it with the alterations to the pilot that this is one of the larger scale kits?

It's the 1/48 old tool Hurri, which is annoying as I thought that it was a new tooling and had my son running about all over the place trying to find that particular boxing as a birthday present!Molly-new wrote:Nice start, I take it with the alterations to the pilot that this is one of the larger scale kits?

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when I found that out. And then I built it - and rather liked it!

Looking good.
I've always wondered why some folks paint their models before assembling them.

Cheers Skipper, it depends on the individual model. If I want a pristine finish (which is rare) I'll do the painting after assembly, but this is going to be a well worn example so some slight mismatching of shades is going to be on the cards anyway (which is just as well, as there is quite a difference between the spray can Dark Green and the small pot one!)DazDaMan wrote:Looking good.

Ahh, I get it now. Not a bad idea, that. Might try it myself one day.
