Marky's Hurricane Pair ***FINISHED***

Post by MarkyM607 »

Haven't rescued the kits from the loft yet, but will try to do two 1/72 Airfix Hurricanes. One will be in 'real' markings using the Airfix kit but probably in non-RAF markings for a change. The other will be the same or similar kit which will not be the main build as what-ifs are not allowed in this GB, but it will be in tribute to my Aunt who died on the 22nd of April. It will carry her initials MP.S, and will be done as I once built a Hurricane and a Spitfire for her in better times.

I've since found out that the code letters MP were used by a real squadron so not totally a Whif for the second Hurricane. But then it fell apart slightly. The real squadron to use the letters was 76 Squadron but unfortunately they seem to have flown various marks of the Halifax throughout the war. Never mind!!.

I think one release of the Hurricane had Irish Air Force markings. Let me check my stash.

That rings a bell with me. I do definitely remember seeing IAC markings on a Hurricane kit at some point!

Time to re-hijack my thread back!! :ha: :ha:
Unfortunately not much done this week, mum slipped on the third step from the bottom and cracked her arm/shoulder. Spent three hours in A&E getting it checked and x-rayed. No fracture or anything but soft tissue/poss ligament damage so I've been stepping up to the dog walking duties and others. Did manage to get the Hurricane body together and attach it to the wing.
I think someone else said about this but there was a slight step between the front centre of the wing and the underside of the nose. Managed to shave a bit off for a better fit. Have also made a start on the Academy IIc which I am going to use the 3D Kits IId cannon set on.
Also have another Airfix Hurricane I, this one with three blad prop. The one I'm working on now has a two blade.

Thanks OT, she says thank you too, that's nice of you.
In Hurricane news, might not get much done today as just returned from my Aunt's funeral service so might wait until tomorrow. :)

Quick update, still assisting one armed Mum!!, so model time seems to have been limited. Some small progress made.
Image
Have also started the Mk.IIc/d which is at a similar stage to the Airfix one shown. Have to remove bumps and cover panels for the IId version so have done this and added a little filler to smooth things out.

Sorry about the lack of pics so far. Mum is now using her arm more and I have had time for important modelling business!!!. Hurricane no.1, the Airfix Mk.I is now at the painting stage at looks good for completion (he said hopefully)

This is the Academy IIc which I am attempting to change into a IId. The 40mm Cannon are in front of it as is the happily found vokes type filter needed for two of the three colour schemes provided by 3D Kits. Found this in the spare parts from a Revell Sea Hurricane IIc, so money saved as well as time and effort trying to make one!.

Nearly there!!. The white line on the desert Hurricane is now gone, just a little seam repair work. Canopies have also been painted. Both are now varnished ready for decals and the desert one needs it's 40mm fitted so hopefully tomorrow they will be done.

And the 111 Squadron Mk.I

Little bit of silvering around the decals but more obvious in pics than real life!!.
