Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th***Finished***
Re: Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th
Lower surfaces painted Poly Scale Sky after a little pre-shading.
I think I forgot to mention earlier but a hole was drilled behind the oil cooler for the recognition (IFF?) light. Again a M.V. Products lens was used with Tamiya clear orange added.

Looking good so far. I'm doing the same kit (different boxing) and I've just found that the strut attached to the oleo leg is kinda short. Have you got to that stage yet?
"Spits, SLUFS and Rock 'n' Roll"
Re: Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th
Close to that point. I have the main strut mated to the gear doors and did a test fit. Sounds like stretched sprue in my future.

Re: Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th
Good day so far decalling the Hurricane. The Super Scale sheet is designed for BoB Hurricanes and Spitfires. I had chosen SD*N as one of the first kits I ever build was the Revell 72 Hurricane with frameable box art. It was SD*N. Never really learned of its loss until recently.
But.........while the decals perform nicely, the sizing is wrong. At first I thought that I mixed Spits and Hurricanes up but not the case. The side roundels (Type A1 I think) was the first problem. The roundel is in three pieces to avoid registration issues. The yellow piece is the same diameter as the blue and white piece. The center red piece is a micro dot. So.............I am on the third outsourcing of the project and relied on a War Eagle 11x8 inch assorted roundel sheet made for IPMS/USA in the early 80's.. It still worked out fine.
So if all goes well, this part of the project will be done by tonight.
And to answer Purplethisle: Yes the retraction legs are far to short. Sprue to the rescue.

Re: Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th
Thanks a lot for the comments guys.
As I punch off the clock tonight most all is completed. Tomorrow will be dull coat, wireless aerial and removal of the masking to call this one done.

Well boys I am calling this one done.
This was a wonderful build and only a caution to pass on. The landing gear mains are weak in that the retraction links are to short and the piece that fits into the provided hole is quite small. Sprue replacements should be used along with super glue to beef things up.
Glamour shots to follow after I get my daughters school graduation festivities completed.
Cheers all and thank you for looking.
