Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th***Finished***
My build will be the old school 1/48 Hurricane in the "Blueprint" boxing.
Boxart:
Innards:
Instructions and decals:
While maybe not up to the new mould standards it certainly holds it's own for the age.
I will probably do SD*N that was lost in the thick of things in the summer of 1940.

I only built one of those for the first time earlier this year - really liked it.
In fact, so much so that I bought another!

I bought one too, only to realise that I already had one in the stash!!. Will be saving one of these for the BoB GB in August.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Re: Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th
Early riser this morning. Thought it was a Blitzbau I guess. Watched the latest commercials on the TV (essentially what we have to watch anymore over here) and headed for the bench. After about an hour or so here is where I am at.
A little difference in the construction process. Following the instructions, the floor area, seat, control column are mounted on the landing gear bay and glued onto the lower wing piece. I like that. On the new mould Hurricane the correct floor area is used. I also put together the pieces with two halves. Both props have been assembled and painted while I sorted out which one SD*N used. Photos indicate it was the Rotol prop. Experts please clarify.
I use a small Paasche air compressor which is really quiet so can be used without upsetting the still sleeping household. Daughter's class in school has a "skip" day today. 16 days until graduation and most of the 225 students are taking over the world for one day.
Looking ahead at the wing assembly shows the lower half is added to the assembled fuselage. The top pieces are then added. Gun muzzles are separate pieces and clear lens covers are added to the landing lights. Thoughts of MV Products lens being used for the lights themselves.
So with not to much on my agenda today, I am forging ahead. Also trying to complete my Lesser Air Force entry in between.

So after a few interruptions I made it this far.
Here is the fuselage assembled and seams cleaned up. The green color is Squadron Putty and the Gray is Tamiya Surface Primer. When I test fit the wing and cockpit parts in there was a large gap in the rear bulkhead. No doubt due to my alignment of said bulkhead to the cockpit floor/gear bay. A section of very thin sheet styrene patched it up quickly. Absolutely no issues thus far.
Overview of fuselage:
Decals sorted out from a Super Scale sheet on 48th Hurricanes.
So progressing nicely. Saturday night. 7 o'clock and I wanna rock, wanna get a belly full of beer.

Re: Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th
Today's update has the airframe assembled and seams dealt with. So these pictures show the warts. There was a bit of a step along the wing roots. It is not a bad build by any means. Seams were filled with a combination of Squadron Green, sanding, Squadron White, final sanding and Tamiya Surface Primer.
The landing light lens fit so well that their attachment will be left to the finish. Position lights on the wind tips will be cut out with clear lens added from kit supplied clear sprue.
Pressing on after a couple of chores get done.

Looking good Jeff, I have the same kit but in an overall yellow boxing. 1/48th is not really my scale but if time permits I may crack it out for this GB.

I just realized that you have not seen the undersurface of the build.
Note there are no shell casing ejector chutes either actual holes or outlines. I will cut tiny rectangles out of decal stock to replicate this.
Position lights cut out now.
And so it goes.

Re: Jssel's Old Mould Airfix Hurricane in 1/48th
The position lights are added now. The technique is simply taking a small chunk of clear sprue (I like Airfix clear sprue because it is sort of hexagon in shape so you already have a flat side) and drilling a small hole partially through the piece. Use caution as the sprue is so small you can easily drive the bit into your hide. Once done, take a cocktail stick and apply a bit of clear red into the hole and let dry. When completed super glue the piece into the slot on the wing. Finally file or sand to shape. Future will shine it up nicely.
I use clear red and clear blue for the colors out of the Tamiya range. Lefty-Redie, Righty-Bluey
OK so here is the result. I think it enhances the model in these larger scales.
M.V. Products have been sorted for the landing lights.

This morning I have mounted the landing lights in the wings. M.V. Products #180. Lens will be added and the undersurface color will be sprayed on this afternoon. I will again say the clear lens fit like a dream.
