This is a GB for water-going vessels - ships of any kind, any era, any propulsion, on or under the sea, etc - but not for amphibious aircraft or vehicles.

This GB started from a thread here.

The GB runs for 6 weeks, from May 2nd to June 13th; your GBL is Dazzled who will fill in any other info.

Avast, me hearties and welcome to the 2015 nautical GB.

As GBL I'll lead the way and go first. My entry for the GB will be the Heller rebox of the old Airfix USS Forrestal in 1:600. I'm hoping to build it as a waterline model mounted on a seascape base. I'm also hoping that I'll have time to finish it.

Fingers crossed ;-)

I have something very unusual in mind, the original was unpowered, it will be built to 1.72 scale and will involve plastic card and balsa wood.

I've narrowed it down to HMS Kelly, the Yamato or a Pibber.

I had two in mind, the Airfix Moskva and the Aoshima Kiev. Mum thinks the latter!!. Just a quick question: do we have to do a seascape base for our builds?
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

A shot of it floating in the bath with you should suffice I think :)

I'm doing the USS Saratoga on the 1969 Med cruise. I've just looked up the AirWing for that cruise so that I can get the correct a/c and markings.
The kit doesn't have any wee Vigilantes, anyone got any 1/720 Vigilantes, Phantoms or Corsairs that they would want to swap for some Tomcats?

I'm looking at the Airfix LCM in 1/72 as it might be of use for the SMW 2015 display.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

These all sound great 8-)

There's no set way to display your models. Do whatever makes you happy......even if that means hanging them from the ceiling ;-)

With some trepidation, I'll be embarking on my first-ever ship model.

OK, not technically my first-ever - I have dim memories of doing a Nimitz with my dad when I was nobbut a lad.

I'll be having a crack at this:

I am in with 1/350 A86 Torpedoboot from the same Mirage, if I can.

My calendar is a bit dicey. I cannot start until next weekend and have a half-dozen days tied up, so I'm down to about a 4-week GB already. I have a few thoughts but they all involve resin or a conversion so I'm not sure what my final choice will be. Stay tuned.

I will be doing the small-scale Airfix HMS Victory. I will try and fix up the masts correctly and add PE ratlines. I'm also going to make it a waterline model.
