Post to NZ doesn't do much to help even though the purchase price isn't so bad. One I'll watch out for a bit later, too many other things on the NEED list just now. :)

Time for a long overdue update.

It's not that the model bench has been completely idle but, in what little time I've had, I've been addressing some of the issues associated with a venerable kit like this one. It's the usual round of fill/sand/paint/fill/sand/paint etc. Not exciting enough to keep repeating.

These are the main culprits.

Image

These gun sponsons have been an absolute pain in the proverbial to get the decks flush. Hopefully, this last flourish of Squadron Green will do the job. The deck colour is a mix of Tamiya XF:66 and XF:50 in a 3:1 ratio. While I had it in the airbrush I also sprayed the island walkways and those around the deck.

My other little bit of reportable progress is that I've boxed in the stern quarter decks.

Image

And the hull has received it's first coat of paint, a mix of XF:66 and XF:2, also in 3:1 proportions.

Hopefully I'll find some more time this week as my studies draw to a close.

Looks like the old sink holes have reared their ugly heads. Had a couple on the Victorious too, but surprisingly, not too many. My version is a mid seventies boxing so a few had been pushed through the moulds previously.

The troublesome sponsons are now attached.

They've had a coat of Copydex on the deck sections to protect them from my next round with the airbrush.

I'll be getting all the smaller sticky-outy bits on soon :)

Time to do a bit more to the Forrestal. I'm still trying to get used to actually having free time so this weekend has been a little erratic. However, some progress has been made.

The flight deck is masked ready for paint.

Image

Copydex proved perfect for this. All the edge walkways were filled with it and any excess that happens to overspill onto the deck can simply be rubbed off with a finger. It needs a little time to dry properly before paint can be applied.

Some more sticky-outy bits have attracted themselves to the hull.

Image

And this includes the tops of the sponsons where the 5" guns will be mounted.

And speaking of the guns....

Image

The turrets are painted and ready to fit. As the picture shows, there are a few other parts in the works too.

Hopefully, I'll get a bit more done before this GB ends but, unfortunately, due to work and holiday commitments 8-) this is highly likely to be a DNF  .

Oh well, such is life.

Off on holiday tomorrow so, unfortunately, the Forrestal won't be finished before the end of the GB.
