Martin's SEAC Fury ***Finished***
Re: Martin's SEAC Fury
Latest progress: after more work than I initially thought, I had the greeblies dealt with and the wing fold line filled and smoothed. I then reinstated any panel lines that had become indistinct and scooshed over some more filler. I then backed this up on wings, nose and tailplane with Revell Aqua White to ensure I had a decent white surface. Once dry, I masked up the SEAC bands, which takes us to here:
4 coats of Xtracrylix MSG later, I'm happy with the underside. I then gouged out holes for - and added - the undercarriage legs:
The next order of business is to do the top surface camouflage and add the main gear retraction jack bracing. Hopefully, this should add sufficient rigidity to the undercarriage. I aim to have painting finished by the end of the weekend, which just leaves decals and 'details'.
regards,
Martin

Re: Martin's SEAC Fury
Well, if anyone's still interested, I did 'finish' the painting this weekend. OK, I can see some touch ups are required but generally it's done. Half-way through, when the dark earth was on, I was having second thoughts about the colour scheme but with the green on and the white unmasked, I think it looks quite believable.
Tomorrow, I aim to make some landing gear doors out of thin sheet styrene and tidy up some of the painting. Then, decals.
The unresolved question is whether this is one of the early Mk.Xs sent out to India for tropical proving trials in late '44, or whether it's an FB.XI in Squadron service in early '45, which will entail me raiding the spares box for suitable ordnance with which to festoon it. Questions, questions . . .
regards,
Martin

I think it depends what you can find in the way of ordnance!

There's always an obliging kit in the stash to raid! The question is: would it be worth it?
So, my daughter has a 1/72nd Academy Typhoon partly finished sans ordnance which would yield me some Mk 3 rails. I could rook 2 of those for each wing. Pretty sure I can put my hands on bomb racks also (Academy Tempest; wartime Temps never carried them) and I think I've got some Airfix Tiffy 1000 pounders. But is this build worth the extra effort?

Martin

Looks terrific in that scheme, Martin!
I'd say go for it with bombs.

I agree with Paul; a couple of 1000-pounders would probably look good on this aircraft.

The paintwork looks great Martin.

Thanks for the comments, gents!
Tonight, after tidying up some of the painting errors, I've made main gear doors out of thin plastic sheet, and assembled my 1/72 Airfix 1000 pounders. Their pylons have been added to the wing undersides.

Martin

Re: Martin's SEAC Fury
Decals are now on, although I'm unsure whether to add the second Sqn Ldr pennant on the starboard side and the black outlines to the squadron codes. I may leave as is. No prizes for guessing the pilot and type of aircraft these codes belong to in the mundane world.
And here's the underside to show the (yawn) bomb racks.

You can also see the (rather rapidly assembled) 1000 pounders, and the inner gear doors. The next challenge will be to make the Heller Tempest V windscreen fit (the hood fits fine).

Martin
