Fred's Fury
Another FBII, for Korean War markings.
The u/c legs are mis-moulded so years ago I got a set of Aeroclub replacements;
These are the PM decals;
They look quite good.
However I want to do this as Carmichael's in the Korean War. A set of ESCI decals has these numbers;
I don't know who did their research but the Sea Fury and at least one other is totally wrong on the sheet.
The Airfix sheet seems to have the right codes. Learning from those who have tried to use these I'll give this a coat of Liquid Decal Film.
I seem to have mislaid the instruction sheet. I may find it but this aint a hard kit to build.
The hard part will be placing some of the Airfix decals. [I'm not doing all those stencils ].
I think a visit to the ATF to see if they have the decal placement instruction sheet.

Re: Fred's Fury
An evening of fettling.
Wings; the stubs inside were trimmed so the clear parts sit flush with the wing surface, then each was backed with a bit of kitkat wrapper. The radiator hole was trimmed and a bit of card for the radiator fitted, the carb hole opened up, and brass tube fitted into the gun muzzle holes;
Needs some tidying.
A cockpit interior made up, small bits of plastic card added to inside of fuselage to look like something, a parcel shelf added to blank off the open cave, twisted wire made a control column, the cockpit floor was raised by just over 1mm;
Fuselage closed up and main wing attached. I'll let this set up tomorrow.

Good-oh, Fred!
The gun barrels definitely add something.

Martin

Re: Fred's Fury
An evening of small detailing;
A support for the head rest;
An Aeroclub arrestor hook fitted [needs straightened - again]
An intake was missing on the port wing inboard of the radiator intake. A piece of square tubing was fitted and filler'd to fit;
Small lengths of stretched sprue used to try to resemble the exhaust tubes.
[a bit of tidying to do on these]

Re: Fred's Fury
I trimmed the pitot. It looked a bit too long.
Anyone else building this kit?
Is the plastic surface free of defects? I've noticed that over mine in certain areas raised portions, as if the mould had rust pits on it.

Re: Fred's Fury
That wouldn't be surprising. Mine was an early pressing, so it was pretty good.fredk wrote:I trimmed the pitot. It looked a bit too long.

No raised portions on mine, but lots of sink marks.fredk wrote:I trimmed the pitot. It looked a bit too long.

Is this going to be a finish, Fred?

Re: Fred's Fury
I doubt it very much.
I have two coats of Sky on, but the last needs rubbed down when its dry enough.
The EDSG will be speedy enough, then the decals and final details; but all more than a days worth.

Re: Fred's Fury
This where I got to;
I stripped off my exhaust pipes to do better ones. Following others' builds I decided to use P51 drop tanks and different rockets.
