Andrew's Airfix Ford Trimotor **DNF**

Post by AndrewR »

I'm building the old Airfix Ford Trimotor kit.

Image

An old boxing, with "Locate and cement" style instructions. Excellent :-D

As the decals are a bit elderly, I have some very nice Alaskan Airline ones from Draw Decal.

Image

So this should be quite bright and cheerful when finished!

Star Airlines from Alaska, I should have said!

Looking through the figures spares for sitting passengers, I found a few possibles. These are all very cheap and nasty railway figures from China. Completely varying in size too! From the skinny proportions of some of the standing figures, I suspect they are very bad Preiser knock-offs

The four figures on the left look to be usable with just a clean up. Two seated women passengers, a steward and stewardess standing.

Image

The two sitting figures appear to have sci-fi monkey heads, but are convertible. I found one figure that I had already given a wide brimmed hat. This is the "already started" part of the GB!

Image

I will probably try to resculpt or modify the other figures to represent sitting male passengers. I have lots of these figures, so a few failures will not pose a problem!

Those pilots are definitely Preiser knockoffs from the 1920s airliner set. Are they resin or have they reverse engineered injection moulds for them?

Very bad injection moulds with very low quality hard plastic. You can buy 100 mixed figures for about $4. Maybe 20 will be useful.

They probably mixed up the Preiser 1:87 and 1:72 figures too.

I was referring to the Trimotor. And also agreed about the figures; I have a bag of similar figures that are rather sketchy looking as well, yet might yield a few usables.
